The way this time has rallied this year I almost always stick in until the last out.

I typically wait until its a 5 run deficit before I give up on them...and even then I usually have them on the radio when I go do something else...just in case. I've noticed quite a trend on this board though...if a starter has a bad inning or the lineup doesn't do anything the first time through, woe are we. Granted, 15 years tends to breed that kind of negativity.

Doug Davis with the endless series of 80 mph "cutters."

A cutter is a crappy slider. Nothing more. Let's see what the Pirates do with this junk.

Sure it is. That's why Mariano Rivera gets paid so little.

I guess Laroche didn't play today. How bad was he again?

Hey, fatboy - Davis does not throw his at 94 mph.

Namecalling. How mature of you.

You said, "A cutter is a crappy slider. Nothing more." Not "Davis's cutter". Not "A slow cutter".

Neither did Esteban Loiza, and yet his cutter is what turned him from a 5th starter into an All-Star.

And last I checked, Halladay throws a pretty decent cutter that doesn't run at 94 mph either.

Is that namecalling or fact stating?

It's namecalling, and Bucfan knows it. And I'm sure your mean-spirited comment is not well-received by anyone here.

Criticism about being mean spirited coming from you? That's the pot calling the kettle black.

I will call people out for being obtuse or being a jerk on this board, and if that's being mean-spirited, so be it. But I will never insult the physical appearance of anyone on this board. There's an astronomical difference.

Defining when it's OK to be mean-spirited and when it's not. You are a walking double-standard.

Econo Wilton is right.

Bucfan, I really like your posts because you make me laugh everyday! You're such a funny guy!!

I like Sisy too. He lends a unique perspective to this board and I value his opinions. He's a good guy.

Some of us already have dysfunctional families in the real world. We don't need more of that here. This board should be a place to visit to escape the negativity. It's OK to debate points but we can't allow name calling.

For me this board is a way to share my interest in the Pirates. I think it helps me stay in tune with the PBC.

I have learned much about baseball in this last year and a half of posting and reading. There really is a great deal of knowledge out there and it has helped me appreciate the game more. I know that I'm a stronger fan today because of the board. I look forward to reading and posting when I'm not around here.

My biggest complaint is that some guys aren't willing to let it go after a lengthy discussion. Must be the need to be right and prove the other guy is not. If words were fists, sometimes I think we would be witness to some terrible beatings. Can't we come to some agreement that after venting is over, the subject is dropped and move on to something else?
