I remember the good old days (two years ago) when the minor league system for the Pirates was about McCutchen, maybe Walker and ???

Today there are so many fresh promising names, it is truly becoming difficult to keep track of the talent coming up through the system. There can be little question that the future of the team looks dramatically better. They won't all become stars but there is a good chance many will be good big leaguers in time.

I'm starting to notice many more folks who are beginning to become positive about the team's future. Suddenly, the Pirtaes have traded away all the talent and dumped salary again comments are much less prevelent.

Well, welcome you 'Doubting Thomases'-glad you are now drinking the Kool-Aide too.

Here's just a snap shot of some our depth now:

Catcher- Doumit, Jaramillo, Diaz, Sanchez

First Base- Jones, Clement, Pearce, Morgan

Second Base- Young, Ford, Negrych, Harrison

Shortstop- Cedeno, Friday, D'Arnaud, Mercer, Diaz

Third Base- LaRoche, Walker (hitting .364 in August), Alvarez

Outfield- Tabata, Milledge, McCutchen, Hernandez, Latimore, Marte, Grossman

Now the fun part...

Pitchers- Morton, Hart, Ascanio, Lincoln, McCutchen, Hacker, Alderson, Lorin, Pribanic, Strickland, Q. Miller, Locke, Owens, Justin Wilson, McSwain, Moskos, Dubee, and others

No particular order- feel free to add or detract

Missed a couple more pitchers- Adcock and Boleska. By the time I got to pitchers, I left current established pitchers off the list. I also didn't include recent draft picks.

It's hard to argue with the direction in which the team has gone. What is more arguable, and what more concerns me, is whether it was executed correctly...that is, did we actually get bona fide major leaguers out of these deals. The Bay trade is one that gnaws at me when considering NH's ability to evaluate talent. As of now, all we really have to show for that deal is a solid defensive third baseman. We'll pretty much know for certain whether that trade was a bust or not by this time next year (with the exception of Morris, who won't be in a major league uniform for a while), and I hope that Moss and LaRoche turn it up offensively.

I think Cruz could be a useful utility player and Bixler might stick with the big club for years to come, one of them peanut vendors is going to have to retire sooner or later...Bixler has a great shot...

I think you have to include Jarek Cunningham somewhere on that list, even though he hasn't played this season.
