The Pirates win and nobody has anything to say!

What is there to say?

I remember when the Pirates were coming out of the 80's and we made that trade for Van Slyke, LaValliere, and Dunne, and folks were in an uproar. I can't remember what their record was but the Pirates finished fairly strong in August and September and it gave us some confidence heading into the next season. There wasn't anything to say then. Those guys had to prove themselves. Same here. It's up to the guys that are here to finish strong, gather some confidence and weed out guys that aren't going to help the team.

Forget wins. We're in a race to draft Bryce Harper. Losses are wins and wins are losses.

I'm still around all the time. I can't find anything to talk about unless it is in the game thread while the game is going on. It's a real rough time right now.

Here is something to talk about. Do we look to add players for next year, or do we stand pat and let this batch of youngsters develop?

Personally I have about given up on both Moss and Milledge. Should we add an outfielder, or will Tabata be ready next spring?

What about shortstop? Throughout his career, Cedeno has not shown enough offensive ability to warrant every day playing time. But he has looked good so far as a Bucco and is still relatively young. Do we let him keep the spot, or add a shortstop and make him a backup?

For the other positions I think we stick with what we have. Doumit will likely rebound next year. I would give Young every opportunity to prove he is good enough defensively, because he has a plus bat for the position. I like Jones as the first baseman long term. But where does Clement fit in?

Haven't you heard? The Steelers played their first preseason game on Thursday. Baseball season is now over.

I agree that Moss is out of the future mix.

Milledge is still developing and has shown some promise. A hell of a lot more than Moss at least.

I'm still following the board...just don't have a lot to say. Trying to stay optimistic and the best way to do that is to keep my mouth/keyboard shut. I'd say shortstop belongs to Cedeno unless someone else proves they can take it. He's been one of the few pleasant surprises we've had this year. I don't see going after more players unless it fits the mold of all the moves we've made this year. Have we seen the best Doumit has to offer? I think maybe we have. Although I think he's playing poorly due to the time he missed...he's capable of more. Maholm? He just looks like he's over it. That no matter how well he throws...his demeanor shows he doesn't think he's going to get the support he needs to win. I also think JJ will compete tenaciously for the starting job next year no matter who's still here or not. We need WAY MORE bullpen before next year.

Between being busy with gigs and work and a lack of good baseball there hasnt been much to talk about...

What about a possibility of Bill Hall to replace Vazquez next season?

After watching him "leg" out that triple into a sure double last night, I think Monty Hall could replace Vasquez next year. Who knows....he may be willing to make a deal!

I want to give up on Moss, but for some reason, I can't pull myself to do it.

Milledge hasn't been as good as I would have expected...but I'll be willing to give him until next year to develop. His defense has been horrid though.
