Interesting lineup indeed ... talk about shaking it up. Typically Jack gets moved down like that when he's struggling at the plate ... he's been hitting the ball very well since returning. Bay is 0-12 all-time against Webb.

What is it with McLouth getting hit by pitches this year? Has anyone else noticed that this is about his 4th time already?

Nice to see the worst hitter in the lineup batting second again.

Normally I'd be screaming about bunting a runner from second to third with no outs in the first, but if the guy is hitting as badly as Sanchez is, you might as well bunt.

The worst hitter in the lineup is hitting sixth. The second-worst is hitting second.

The worst hitter in the lineup is hitting sixth. The second-worst is hitting second.

Adam LaRoche's OPS: .647
Freddy Sanchez's OPS: .578

As I said, the Pirates have the worst hitter in the lineup batting second.

And based on the WIDE margin between those two NOT EVEN CLOSE numbers, one is "easily, no doubt about it" the biggest blackhole on the team. No need to mention that both of them are struggling have all year, just the worst because he is the WORST!

You think that a difference of 69 points in OPS is close? One Freddy Sanchez is 89% of one Adam Laroche. Put it another way. A guy who is 89% of a .300 hitter is batting .267. 69 points in OPS is a pretty big difference, especially towards the bottom end of the OPS scale where these guys are.

My point is that they are both playing terrible right now and should both be acknowledged. That is what you should have gotten from my post ... I was hoping you would, otherwise you'd be stupid to think I would make a sarcastic post only for you to fire back the statistics.

Since I'm not saying that LaRoche should replace Sanchez in the number two spot, I don't see the point of the sarcasm.

That's fine that you don't get the sarcasm, but I said what my point was and I think that Sanchez and LaRoche are both playing very badly right now and I don't see one being dominant over the other. I am obviously on your side on this. I wasn't referring to batting order but just their production in general.

Tough loss tonight. Nothing you can do about that though. It's one of those hard fought games where the better team pulled it out. Even though Snell didn't last long it's a fair stretch better than what he has been producing.

Ugly game for Osoria, Jack and Doumit.

Good game by Sanchez and Yates.

Bucfan, how could you come on here and praise Sanchez without praising LaRoche? That ain't right dude.

You have to look at the potential runs environment. If Webb is throwing as expected, you are not going to win a 8-7 game. In most instances, you are going to have to scratch out runs here and there. There will likely be limited scoring opportunities. Setting up a pretty hot hitter in Bay with one out and a runner on third in the first inning was not a bad play at all. McLouth likely scores on even a medium deep fly ball or a grounder to short or second base - likely scores on any grounder that is not directly hit to the pitcher, third baseman or first baseman. Unfortunately, Bay didn't get it deep enough to score a speedy McLouth.

And, as you point out, you also have to look at what sort of "streak" the hitter is on. Sanchez has struggled lately so the combination of going against Webb with a hitter who is struggling makes the call for a sacrifice bunt a very strong situational play at that time.

That it didn't play out doesn't make it a bad call; it was just a call that didn't work out.

Snell had a weird night, lots of pitches lots of K's but did not last long because of the pitches...

5 innings, 2 runs, 1 earned, 5 hits, 3 BB's, and 9 K's...107 pitches

They are nice numbers overall, but they were gotten ugly...

But this is more improvement for Snell, 2 decent starts in a row, maybe Snell has bought into Andrews' pitching philosophy finally?

Snell left because he's hurt his back, not because of pitch count.

He's starting to look a bit like last year Snell. Hope it continues.
