You really do grab on to anything negative with both hands, don't you?

That article is a load of shit. Wanna know why?

- Rays

- Twins

- Marlins

- Brewers

Other small budget teams are getting it done. We just had shit GM's for too many years and none had a plan. Now, there is a plan and I consider that real progress.

Guess what, the Marlins are the only team to win the World Series out of that bunch. I hate hearing how we should replicate the Twins and A's. Neither has won in this era. Neither has even been to a World Series. If all the Pirates want to do is get to .500 we should follow them. The Marlins do it right. Sell high, load up on young talent, and become buyers when the time is right.

Which would you rather be, a one hit wonder or a team that contends every year?

I'll take a contender every year.

Not me. I'd rather win two World Series titles since 1996 than just "above average" every year.

I've heard this question asked on sports talk shows regarding any team. I'm always surprised at those who would not want the ultimate goal...the championship. Nobody remembers the 2nd best team. No championship parades like the 2 I went to this past year. The Buffalo Bills were contenders and lost 4 SBs. They are remembered as losers..not fair but that's the way it is.
The goal is to be the best...not close to the best.

If you contend every year, you have a chance to win a championship every year.

The Marlins don't, but the Twins always seem to be in the mix. That's the point I'm trying to make.

I get home delivery on the Beaver County Times, and trust me, anybody covering the Pirates in that newspaper is highly marginal. Certainly that includes Madden.

I believe all teams spend more then the Pirates? I am not positive about the florida teams, but I believe they spend more money then Pittsburgh.
And the only one of those teams to win the world series is the marlins?
I thought the goal was a world series not a .500 team?
No teams udner .500 will get to the world series so at some point .500 must happen
