Hopefully Duke can have another quality start.

I don't mind this lineup. Freddy can move a runner over in the 2 hole.. at least there's less pressure to drive in runs, right?

How many of you guys would like to see Duke hit 8th and Freddy 9th?

Duke did nice work getting out of a 2-on, 1-out situation in the fifth. So far, so good: 6 hits in five innings, but only 1 run and 0 walks. And one of the 6 hits was a bunt single.

Would love to see Zach get the win. Maybe he can pitch seven innings tonight. Bring Marte in the 8th and have Mr. Capps close this thing. Can we possibly take two out of three against the 'Stros??

We are getting some ugly runs, but runs nonetheless. McLouth and LaRoche's RBI singles both popped off the infielder's glove. McLouth's literally went right out of the guy's glove while LaRoche's was about an inch away from being a double play ball. Alas, I'll take them and hopefully Duke can continue pitching well and go a decent amount of innings tonight.

Pretty good seven innings by Duke, all in all. 2 earned runs on 7 hits and only 1 BB. He was reasonably economical with his pitches, too: just 88. And against a tough batting order in Tejada, Berkman, Lee, Pence, and Wigginton.

Even if he doesn't come back out for the 8th, he'll have earned his keep tonight.

Matt Capps with the change-up!

He threw two to pinch-hitter Erstad and both were really good. Down and away, with good movement. Erstad waved at both and could not put his bat on the ball.

If Capps can just control the slider (against righties, primarily), he would have three pitches in his arsenal - quite a rarity for a closer.

Nice win. Even La-la-la Roche contributed.

These things even out and the Pirates are damn well due some close calls. Nady was robbed on two balls smashed against the Cardinals, and McLouth crushed one to the gap against the Astros that was run down. The fact that a well-hit ball gets through the infield is not "lucky," any more than getting robbed is lucky.

P.S. Laroche simply cannot seem to get the bat around on fastballs.

Nice win tonight on a complete team effort - including that of LaRoche and Chavez. Capps continues to be lights out when the rare save opportunity becomes available to him.

Nice to see another good start by Duke.

Wehner was talking about that last night. He felt LaRoche's swing is too long. I agree. LaRoche has power, but I wouldn't exactly call him quick through the zone like a Mclouth. He really struggles on pitches on the outside corner and adjusting for fastballs when he's looking for an offspeed pitch. Granted most batters struggle when they get crossed-up, but LaRoche is usually late by an hour.

When the Pirates put up that 3 spot ( I think it was 3) it was great to see Tejada take some line drives he couldn't get too...it was like they were picking on him...I think that inning he aged another 2 or 3 years...that puts him at 38 or 39 now doesn't it?
