2:04pm: Joel Sherman of the New York Post hears that the Giants are "definitely getting Freddy Sanchez." The Pirates already traded Jack Wilson today, so they could conceviably lose their entire double play combo in one day.

Sounds like a pretty decent return, even though none of those guys have shown anything in the majors so far.

Jen Langosch (mlb.com) Tweets: Source: Giants to examine Sanchez's knee Wednesday afternoone; deal is in place if all is OK; would not involve the Bucs receiving any Major League players in return. More shortly.

John Bowker, Kevin Frandsen and Jesus Guzman have all played in the majors this season. If that would be what we are really getting in return. So far i heard about 10 different things that we might be getting in return.

The latest from DK:
Quote:
A high-ranking member of the Pirates' front office just confirmed -- emphatically -- that no deal is in place to send Freddy Sanchez to San Francisco.

The official said that there was the framework of a deal in place but that the Giants backed out Monday night upon learning of Sanchez's MRI. The Giants never ruled out revisiting the original framework, though, and that is the reason they are taking a second look at the knee. The Giants are in a pennant race and need help right away, so Sanchez missing even a week or two would affect matters.

'Right now, there absolutely is no deal' the official said.

Maybe this explains why I was hearing one thing inside, one thing outside the organization.

Freddy Sanchez has been advised to hang around AT&T Park even though his flight to Phoenix is set to depart San Francisco at 8:20 p.m. Eastern, less than two hours from now.

Sanchez already had sought and received permission from the Pirates to skip their charter flight back to Pittsburgh tonight, and he had planned to spend the off day tomorrow at his home in Phoenix in case he was traded.

Trade Rumors is now saying it's Freddy STRAIGHT UP for a minor leaguer. It had better be their number one prospect!!!

Damn, I'm going to have one of my kids teach me how to attach a link. Anyway, this kid won't be 21 until November, 3.47 ERA at AA in 13 starts. 6'7" 220 lbs. Good frame.

From Horizon High School here in Phoenix. He is the real deal. Throws extremely hard with super control. Only 20 years old. If he stays healthy, which there is no reason he shouldn't, this is big.

Beat me to it, Bucco Boy! Supposedly has the best curveball in their system. Kind of bothered me that I saw their projected lineup in 2012, and he was listed as their number 4 starter. Of course, Lincecum and Cain werre ahead of him. They would be ahead of most. I just hope that doesn't mean he projects as a number 4 starter.

From MLB Trade Rumors:

5:51pm: Kovacevic is reporting that the minor leaguer is AA pitcher Tim Alderson. This is an impressive haul for Sanchez--Alderson was ranked the #4 prospect in the Giants' system by Baseball America. What we thought was a salary dump has turned into a coup for the Pirates.

That would probably be his rookie year and yeah, then guys ahead of him have something to do with it. Baumgartner is the No. 1 prospect in their system.

Here is Sickels take:

Apparently the Giants think Sanchez is really going to help them...

Nice.

I am a Freddy fan, but we need all the blue chip pitching prospects we can get.

Freddy would help them. They are a contender, and need help at the bat and in the field at 2nd. Freddy provides that in spades.

ZM is right. He is a role player who will a team that has other pieces. Giants fans are pissed because he isn't the power hitter they wanted, but power isn't everything.

I like this move. We get a serious pitching prospect.
1. Where will he go? Class A or altoona?
Also this deal is not that bad for the bucs, but I still see we haven't addressed our lack of middlefield depth for next year. Maybe we will sign someone.
