Maybe we have a board that is largely employed :)

Seriously I have to go back to work now.

I must say that I enjoy my teacher's schedule.

I used to be able to get onto this site at work...until the powers that be at MIS blocked it.

Bigger question: Why would Seattle make this trade? Wilson to help for a playoff run? Snell has upside but salary too.

Clement 25, Lefthanded hitter, has not caught most of the season, mostly DH with a few starts at 1B, seems to have some pop, hit 20 HR at Tacoma in 2007

Pribanik, 22, RHP, WHIP 1.17, 26 BB, 54 K, 87 innings, 3.21 era Low A, starter

Lorin, 22, RHP, WHIP .96,25 BB, 87K, 88 Innings. 2.44 era, starter

Adcock, 21, RHP, starter till last 3 appearances, 1.52 WHIP, 10 HR/102 innings.

Cedeno, Cubs discard to Mariners this year, hitting .167, O for last 21. :? :?

Are the mariners crazy??? They gave us A great hall for jack and snell. However I am still a little worried that snell COULD be good someday. I doubt it thought and this looks like a great deal for the Pirates.
Who plays shortstop now? Ronny Cedeno.

Jeff Clement is nearing bust status, quickly. He's long been considered the Mariners' top prospect, and one of the top in baseball, but will be 26 in a few weeks.

Ronny Cedeno is hitting somewhere around .167 and is 26, although his defense is impressive I'm told.

Aaron Pribanic was a 3rd-round pick in 2008, and is currently doing well in Class-A. He's not ranked in the Mariners' top 10 by Baseball America.

Brett Lorin was a 5th-round pick in 2008, and is currently doing well in Class-A. He's not ranked in the Mariners' top 10 by Baseball America.

Nathan Adcock was a 5th-round pick in 2006, and is currently getting blasted in Class-A+. He's not ranked in the Mariners' top 10 by Baseball America.

This is strange. They were supposed to be sellers at the deadline. I like what we got though. Snell could be good someday indeed. I am glad he gets a fresh start somewhere else. Maybe he can improve his command and get it done.

Is clement finally going to get a chance to play at the major league level everyday? IS doumit going anywhere anytime soon?

Ryann-

All of this has already been answered in this thread.

Clement is going to AAA. The 3 pitchers to A. Cedeno will play short in Pittsburgh.

BTW- Clement has 50 XBH already in AAA this year. He probably plays 1st base. Soon, if Pearce doesn't stop K'ing.

You do not know the specifics yet, they traded 2 somewhat high salaried players.

Perception around baseball is that the Pirates get the short end of the stick, again...

Not what I have heard either. Where are you hearing this? It really depends what kind of player Snell becomes.

Tweet from Kevin Goldstein, Baseball Prospectus: Best deal Pittsburgh has made yet.

Tweet from Jonathan Mayo, MiLB: First glance, #Pirates trade with Seattle brings back pretty good haul, considering it was for defensive SS and enigmantic RHP.

Damn, U.S.S Mariner and fangraphs are both down. It'll be interesting to see how they spin this, as this deal doesn't make much sense for Seattle.

I don't like the trade, mostly because I wanted to see Jack remain a Pirate, and I wanted to see Ian have success here too.

The two older guys don't look like they are going to help much. Considering what we gave up, it was a decent batch of players.

We should have gotten this Tacoma first baseman instead.

Comments from the Seattle times:

Love it! Upgrade at short, Snell can pitch a little...

Only regret is losing Clement, always thought he deserved more of a shot here... at least he is going somewhere he can't hurt us... good luck, andJeff!

It is great to get rid of Cedeno, but National league hitters batting always drops off when coming to the American league. Case in point: Beltre, Sexon and Cirillo.

Good trade. Gotta like the exceution of this deal. We don't lose much. Clement wasn't going anywhere here and Cedeno never really developed when given a chance. As far as the minor leaguers go, the strongest upside was Adcock who pitched pretty well in High Desert but did walk 54 batters in 102 inning. Not the best control, however he is still learning.

We just traded a 26 year old catcher and three minor league arms for a mediocre SS and a pitcher who could not crack the Pirates rotation
