STARK: Pirates ready to deal
ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports that the Pirates intend to trade both second baseman Freddy Sanchez and shortstop Jack Wilson by the deadline, according to clubs that have spoken with them in the last 24 hours.

Sanchez is now heavily rumored to be heading for the Giants. And there are indications the Pirates and Red Sox were close to a deal for Wilson, until the Red Sox backed off -- at least for now -- until they can determine which prospects they might need to make other trades. The Pirates are looking to accumulate young players in all their deals, in keeping with the moves they've made over the last year involving Jason Bay, Xavier Nady and Nate McLouth.

Both Sanchez and Wilson were offered extensions a few weeks ago, but nothing came of those offers.

Dejan is reporting on the blog...

The wheels are beginning to spin ...

Jack Wilson is out of the lineup tonight in San Francisco, and I just confirmed through two sources that he is healthy. Chuck Finder will update that further down in the game thread from AT&T Park.

Also, I recently received confirmation that the Pirates and Giants had talks deep into last night/this morning, presumably -- though not definitely -- about Sanchez.

In a general sense, of the past few conversations I have had -- phone and text -- there is very much the sentiment that stuff is brewing on these two fronts. And no, there have not been new extension talks.

How odd would it be if Freddy gets traded to the Giants before the game and starts against the Pirates?

UPDATE 6:53 p.m.: Something is definitely going on, but I still do not know which of the two is being traded, if either. Will update as needed.

Bixler is also not in Indy's starting lineup, possibly due to a promotion.

Bixler not playing? No Wilson? No Sanchez? They can talk all they want, it sure looks like they're both gone. If not today, this week for sure. Man Freddy could be playing against us in this series possibly.

Why oh Why can't SMJ just tell everyone the real reason that both players have tuesday night off.

"Freddie is a little banged up, so i was told to let him sit because he will be some on some other team's squad, by Friday".

And for Wilson, " yeah, hopefully we can get rid of him by sometime later tonight, or in the morning.
"He is healthy enough to play, but Neil doesn't want to do anything to screw up the big return the team is getting".

I am surprised SMJ was not asked if Wilson or Sanchez was available for defensive replacement, and/or pinch hitting duties.
If he was asked, i missed it, and would like to know his answer.

It will be tough to see both of those guys go.
Can one ever imagine that another Pirate will ever have the longevity with the team as Wilson does?
This is Jack Wilson's 9th year with the club?
I find it difficult to believe that under the NUTTING CO. administration ,any single player will last more than 4 consecutive seasons being a member of the Pirates.

Andy Van Slyke, next Pirate manager.

12 AM...WEEI Boston rumor:

Boston's offer for Halladay via Yahoo:

The report says the offer includes Clay Buchholz, pitching prospect Michael Bowden, and top outfield prospect Ryan Westmoreland. But because the Blue Jays are also looking for a shortstop, the Sox might try to get a third team involved in the potential trade.

Note the SS requirement from a 3rd team. Could that be Jack Wilson to the Jays (doubt it)? or could that be why the Sox are interested in Wilson if they give Green to the Jays as a part of the deal?

Hmm.. interesting..

Not that it matters but I sort of know the cousin of Buchholz. He works at the automotive dept. of a Wal-Mart here. He was telling me that he saw Clay's no-hitter in person (and his father was at Len Barker's perfect game.) The Bosox should hold onto that guy.

Sorry to get off subject but did any of you guys see Bob Gibson's no-hitter at Three Rivers in person? One of my (ex) co-workers was there.

FWIW, Brian Bixler is no longer the starting shortstop at Indy. That distinction now belongs to Argenis Diaz. Therefore, it is not necessarily a reason to panic when Bixler ("Double B" in our hearts, "Triple K" on our scorecards) is planted on the bench for a night.

Are you saying Bixler is a bad Major Leaguer and a member of the Ku Klux Klan?

Heh. I can see how you could come to that conclusion by looking at his box score. Fortunately, he sometimes strikes out in all four at bats which helps put that nasty rumor to rest.
