Apparently, MLB is holding the Bucs up after all.

F*** MLB. Freedom of contract should be the norm, not this "Oh, we don't want to affect the market with above-slot signings" nonsense. If MLB did not have an antitrust exemption, I would be leading the charge in petitioning the FTC and NLRB to put an end to this crap.

Oh, okay. The Yankees can spend half a billion dollars on three players and nobody says shit, but the Pirates - a team that simply must find, sign and develop young talent = tries to sign goddamn high school players and MLB gets in the way.

They'll sign them, but not until close to the deadline.

I think this system is crazy however when someone says 'salary dump' you can just point out that the Pirates are being held up from paying over slot by baseball.

It's not quite the same, but it is interesting.

I don't think we are cheap, just parsimonious :)
