I can't find a link to this yet but ESPN has reported that the Nationals and 1st overall pick Stephen Strasburg are not expected to be able to reach a contract agreement by the August 17th deadline.
There were reports out a couple weeks ago that Strasburg told family and friends that he would go play in Japan instead of signing with the Nationals.

Negotiating ploy . . . don't believe it.
Boras would never have a client of this magnitude sign a contract before deadline day. Meaningless, absolutely meaningless.

Do you think Boras is doing the same thing to the Nationals that he did to us last year?

Is there REALLY any question?? Of course, he's doing it. Remember though...Strasburg doesn't sign...either here or Japan...Boras doesn't get paid. And I doubt that Japan will pay as well as the Nationals. And if they do...he's gonna be there a while.

Maybe he'll play for the Sioux City Explorers or the St. Paul Saints next season. He could possibly play for the Lincoln Saltdogs or the Wichita Wingnuts. Gotta love the American Association Independent League!

What is a Saltdog?
Isn't that a vodka and grapefruit juice drink?
I don't think that is what a baseball team would be named after though.

That's a classic there Bucfan. I wont even watch the new Pink Panther movies. Steve Martin is just annoying, Peter Sellers was actually funny.

Agree 1000% on the Peter Sellers/Steve Martin point, Colin.

If he doesn't sign, I think we could end up with Bryce Dallas Harper (I'm gonna try to make that stick). Think about it...
We trade Freddy, Jack, Duke, Mad Capper, and proceed to lose a ton of games.
We get the 4th pick
The Nats don't draft Harper with either of the first 2 picks (regular pick and comp pick) because they can't risk going 3 years in a row without signing their 1st rd pick
Cleavo takes Strasburg over Harper (easier to sign after already sitting out a year, and further along in terms of age and development.)
We take BDH (Bryce Dallas Harper, or Big Damn Hero)

I am convinced the Nats don't want to pay Harper. They traded for Nyjer to make themselves better THIS YEAR. Why would they do that with an uber prospect on the way? They don't seem to like paying big money to picks.
