They can't trade LaRoche fast enough for me.

No team will take him. The quicker management realizes this and benches him in favor of Jones at 1st the better the organization will be. Sometimes it's OK to lose a guy to free agency.

LaRoche will remain on the team and at 1B till the end of the season. That is my guess. We(the PBC) are going to ride this deal out till the end with hopes that he catches fire and can be dealt in the offseason. Otherwise, I think he gets released at the end of the season. So lets hope he has that typical "2nd half."

His contract ends at the end of the season, so he can't be dealt or released after the season. He will be a free agent.

I refuse to believe that he can't be dealt. I would keep playing him and hope he gets hot. He had 2 hits last night.

It's like he's hitting backwards. He takes a driveable fastball for strike one, then swings at a quality curveball on the second pitch. Now he did put a good swing on it and lined it through the infield, but it was not a pitch you could do anything more than that with. You can look at just about any at bat with him, and you will find that he takes the best pitch he sees in the at bat. It's like his swing is so long that he needs to guess hit, and make his mind up early to swing- like before the pitcher lets go of the ball.

The one plus about him is he does play some pretty solid defense.

He does have a good glove, but he just has such a lackluster style of play. Just blah.

I was warned back when we got him. I live in Braves country and all of my friends that are Braves fans said "good riddance" and laughed. They hated him.

This has become one of the worst things that could happen for the Pirates right now. We really needed LaRoche to be able to bring some value around the trade deadline.

You are incorrect, sir. His defense is nice, but the reason he has a job is because of his hitting. When he gets hot, he is a very good hitter.

Exactly. The one that looks good to him is the one that's in the dirt.

Actually, he is widely regarded as a gold-glove caliber first baseman. He's shown me some pretty good D on this homestand.

He's currently 26th among ML first basemen in OBP and 21st in SLG. His defense will never be good enough to make up for that.

He is so inconsistent that even if he does get hot, I don't see us getting anything more than a mid-level prospect for him. It looks like all we're getting in return for his departure is his salary off the books.

You are looking at this season. Where do his career numbers place him?

Indeed, as that is the longest any team will retain him after a trade.

Umm. Has anyone noticed that LaRoche is 3 for his last 8 with two doubles?

Ahh. The old "lackluster style" rears its head again. He doesn't look mad going back to the dugout after a strike out. Doesn't grit his teeth enough. That's his problem
