Chris - I first found the UPPMB in 1998 as well, right after the Bucs acquired Giles. I believe that Eric Sokol founded the original UPPMB message board. It was the first message board I joined. When that board crashed in 2000 (?), No. 12 re-incorporated the next version.

Here is the last archive they had before the new board.

Too bad that the old posts are not retrievable. Would have been fun to read some of DK's posts while he was still the Penguins' beat writer. His Game Reports were almost always good reading.

I think that I first visited the www.sportsonly.com site late in 1999. Crazy that I have been interacting with some people "there" and "here" for nearly 10 years.

I joined when the "old board" was still up. No 12 was still here. :) It was during the year the Pirates traded Kris Benson. What year was that?

Wow, I just checked the archive BB posted. Thanks BB. I joined in 2004 and was up to 2223 posts before the previous board was hacked into.

-edit-I realized that I joined the new old board in 2004. I remember making a post on the old old board about Kris Benson, That's the link BBF posted in this thread. I remember getting a PM from, and I think it was No 12, to hop over and join the new board. That's the Board I joined in 2004 and the 2223 posts.

How time flies! Thanks for the memories. :)

I wish i could see what you guys wrote from 1998-2008.
I didn't get here until May or June of last year, i wish i had known about this board earlier. I wasted alot of time on Yahoo writing where there are so many people that nobody answers anyone. Everyone just posts. It is more blog based. I like this alot better, you really get to know the other posters well here.
It has been great getting to know you guys.

I first joined the "really" old board in 1998 or so, and it was going strong at that point. I don't remember an Erik Sokol, so it must have been after No.12 had rebuilt it, because he was in charge when I started lurking. The old board was supported by donations, which became tedious to collect. When buccoboy had volunteered that he had some free server space, we jumped to the "new" old board. A few of the members never made that jump as they didn't like the new format. Then, of course, the "new" old board was hacked last year, and here we are.

Funny thing about the "old" old board...back then, every time you wanted to post, you had to enter your username...you didn't stay logged in. My user name back then was Big Bucco Fan, but that got tedious to type over and over again, hence BBF.

Also, I know Judge Landis used to check in from time to time...I wonder if he still does?

And does anyone thing No.12 still visits his old stomping grounds?

I did get an e-mail from Genny not too long ago and Van sent a donation to our web helper so he still checks in. I do miss the Judge. He was a die hard and his experiences with his daughter were sincere. His signs were great too.

Also, remember EricBowser was the one who started the Cammustgo.com website that garnered attention nationally and in Pittsburgh. I still think it had some influence in Camaroones being dismissed.

Eric still sticks his head in the door once in awhile. Judge made a post or two on this board, but didn't sound like he had any intentions of becoming regular again (Good God, I just made posting on this board equivilent to a bowel movement!). I would bet anything that 12 still peeks once in awhile....in fact I have seen some things in his feature stories that would make one think that he still looks in here to get a pulse of what the die-hard fan is thinking.

Glad I'm not the only one. Sometimes, autism has its perks. The wife can't believe I know my drivers license #, credit card #'s etc. off by heart. And if you would have asked me, I would have said there was no way I would remember the website that I hadn't been to in at least 5 years.

If you ever need help with controlling your autism, let me know...I was a TSS and a teacher's aide in a special ed classroom...

Ah yes, those old boards bring back some memories! I remember times when we were adjusting the colors. Didn't we go black for a while? I remember a few eye-sores along the way.

I miss Judge and the banners...
