Well you never want to see somebody lose their job, and i'm afraid this is what happened. I don't think Yates will ever pitch in the majors again.

I don't know...there always seems to be a market for mediocre relievers....especially in Pittsburgh!

Yates will be 32 in a couple weeks. When he comes back he will probably be atleast 33 and he was a power pitcher who has lost power. That doesn't sound like a player i would want to sign, and i at one point was a big Yates fan.

I am sure NH and FC are happy they did not offer that IP clause in last signed contract, that would automatically renew it through 2020, at 8 million per.

Only joking about the years, and the $$$$, but i would assume the Pirates control over his rights expires after 2010 , at the latest.

Sorry to see a member of team have such a serious injury.

Fortunately for the organization, he wasn't a core piece in the long term plan of Championship caliber baseball, that will once again reign over the NL, starting in 2011.

He's had the same surgery already...He knows the time and work needed to be put in...After his 1st surgery, he was still throwing 95...

How old was he when he had the 1st surgery?

Sounds like you think his age and wear and tear on his arm , will not be a factor .

Since you did say "he Had the same surgery already", you think the Tyler Yates of old will be with the team once again.

I don't know the details of his contract, but i am sure he is released from it ASAP.

"I know I'll be back," he said. "It's going to be a lot of work, but I've been through this before." He had Tommy John on the same elbow ligament in 2002. He also had shoulder surgery in 2005. Still, he returned and threw his fastball routinely at 96-97 mph. ...

I think he'll still be in the 90's with his velocity...He might be, who knows...Yates has been up and down all his career...

I can't help but feel sorry for players who aren't blowhards that get hurt and have their careers shortened due to injury. It's too bad. I have nothing against Tyler and wish him well.

Agree with Dan that pitchers undergoing TJ surgery, and who follow the rehab program, can throw just as hard after the surgery as before.

Just curious, but how many pitchers have returned from TWO TJ surgeries on the same arm? I can't think that the list is very large, is it?

I am pretty sure Chris Carpenter is on that list. He is still dominating.

I have to think he wont be the same even though he had Tommy John a couple years back because of age. He lost 2 mph off his fastball then and now he will be atleast 33 when he returns. He was be throwing a 92 mph straight ball that will be crushed.
It is a tough break but i think this is the begining of the end of him.
