A nice addition....like who?

3 pitchers maybe?

Nothing would be different with Bay and one more bat. You can hit a zillion home runs, but if your pitchers aren't preventing the other team from doing the same, YOU LOSE.

Pitching wins championships and we just aren't there yet.

And the pitching is pretty good this year. So therefore if you kept your best hitter on your team and maybe added another good 3rd basemen either through trades or signing this team would be a great team.
An outfield of Bay McLouth Morgan to start the year. Then say those other deals fell through still we would have Bay Mccutchen Jones out there now as we would wait for Milledge. Sounds perfect.

A major reason for the improvement in the pitching is the huge improvement in defense. One reason for the improvement in defense is that Bay is no longer in left field. Another is the addition of Moss in right. A third is the addition of LaRoche at third.

1. The pitching is not pretty good this year. The pitching sucks. The Pirates' staff is 11th in the league in ERA+, which takes into account the parks at which each staff pitches. So when you adjust for the fact that the Pirates play in a pitchers' park, you will see that the pitching is pathetic. (Even unadjusted, the Pirates are still below the league average in ERA. That's pathetic considering the park in which they throw.) Seriously, at least look at some statistics before you comment.

2. What third baseman are we going to get in a trade that is instantly going to make the Pirates into a contender?

3. I did an analysis at the beginning of the season as to whether the Pirates would be in contention with Bay. At the time, it looked like they might be. But now, both Bay and the Pirates pitching staff have cooled off, and the players we got for Bay are performing better. We absolutely would not be in contention with Bay.

Andy Laroche is mediocre
Moss and Hansen SUCK
Morris is injured goods hasn't proved a thing.
How the hell is that a fair return for an all star?
