The last I heard, reports were circulated on July 2, 2009 that both the Pirates and Twins had made "offers" to Miguel Sano, pending confirmation of his age and completion by MLB of an investigation of his age.

Today is July 7 - five days later. No news since July 2. Has any progress been made? What is going on?

MLB is doing an investigation into his age. No one will sign him until that is complete, because if he is found to have falsified his age, obviously that lessens his value, but he would also be suspended for a year.

That said, the Pirates did their own testing and are convinced, so I expect that when/if he is cleared, they will have their chance at him. However most people now say that Baltimore is the favorite to sign him.

I have also heard that the Twins are close to dropping out of the running and it will be atleast another week before a decision is made to sign him by either the Pirates or Orioles.

I was just looking for the latest on Sano around the web. According to Jorge Arangure who follows MLB for ESPN Magazine he says the Twins have dropped out and that the Orioles don't value Sano more than 1.5. He now feels the Pirates will win. He also feels that once MLB signs off on his age (assuming they do) the signing will happen quickly. Bucs Dugout is saying the same thing tonight as well.

You can follow Jorge on Twitter at http://twitter.com/jorgearangure.

Right now Twins are out of the running. It is Pittsburgh and Minnesota, and Pittsburgh are the favorites to sign him.

Yes. The other thing to keep in mind is that players don't have to sign right away.
