The Pirates, who are apparently not done dealing yet, have engaged in trade discussions with the Twins regarding a number of players, major league sources said Thursday.
At present, Minnesota is most interested in second baseman Freddy Sanchez and relievers Matt Capps and John Grabow, the sources said.

There was talk if he could play 3rd at all, his value would be higher...though I dont think he can make those throws across the diamond...

Freddy was outstanding at third in his time there.

He was...I just think after his shoulder surgery, he might not have the arm to play there anymore

Maybe not, but his arm looks pretty good to me this year.

Hard to tell without seeing him use it from the hot corner.

If the Bucs want to bill him as an option at 3rd, that's fine, so long as we get fair value in prospects in return.

I'm sure the yinzers would have a field day with the trade of Freddy.

But they'll hold off on the sackcloth and ashes until Wilson is dealt.

I really have always liked Freddy as a Pirate. He has done all that he has been asked and without complaining. He played hurt most of last season. Yes, I know he is being well compensated now and he deserves it.

I would hate to see him go and would be very unhappy without serious return. He's about as valuable as we got. We would need a quality starting pitcher and a middle infielder almost major league ready. And no we should not agree to pay part of his salary.

I wouldn't be intersted in anyone but Steve Holleson and/or Trevor Plouffe. We ned middle infielders for 2011. The rest of that team is put together.

They're dropping like flies for Minnosota today. Morneau (groin), Redman(forearm), Plume (sp) ss -- with lower back pain.

What does that do to any potential talks with them. Are they more ready to trade or giving up and standing pat?

Thoughts?

Now, I read DK tell us that there is no active discussion involving Minn. and Freddy. He gives no qoutes or references but is usually on the money.

The guy is not real expensive, still plays good defense, is a great hitter, and we have no viable replacement. I can understand most of the recent trades (although still disagree highly with return for Morgan), but trading Freddy just makes absolutely no sense.

I agree. Freddy is really the only veteran presence we have now and he is playing really good baseball. I say keep him and Cutch, but everyone else is for sale, at least as far as position players go.

Dejan says in the blog that there have been no talks regarding Sanchez. I agree that he probably can't play 3rd anymore...remember he changed his arm angle to a much lower release, which is fine for 2nd, but not from 3rd, especially anything you have to backhand.

He's real expensive next year, he has a history of serious injury problems, and he's at an age where he's going to start to slide soon even if he manages to beat the odds and stay healthy. All that combined tells me to deal him.

Minn is not afraid to move players. They moved Garza or D. Young. I would have loved to have done that one. But they usually blow alot of hot air and dont part with good young players. Dont think they would be willing to give up "fair" value for Freddy. Dont think anything will happen with them.

To their credit, IMO, the Twins do not have a history of moving young, top notch prospects for veteran players. The Garza-Young deal was a trade of two high-end young prospects.
