Thought about just adding this to the other thread but decided it may make more sense to give it it's own.

The Pirates could make another trade, as early as today, likely involving outfielder Nyjer Morgan to Washington for outfielder Lastings Milledge. But it is not final.

Not too thrilled about adding Milledge.

Im not totally thrilled because I like Nyjer but this deal could really help the pirates in the long run.

Milledge brings something Morgan doesn't: Power. He is also younger. Yes, there is risk involved, like any trade. But the talent is the key word here. Most scouts and baseball people feel Milledge has more talent than Morgan.

My guess this is not a one-for-one trade since the Pirates didn't take the first offer by the Nats. Somebody blinked. Hopefully, it was Washington.

If we can get Milledge and another decent young player I would go for it. I like Nyjer but we already have our leadoff man and need more power.

The rest of the deal: Sean Burnett would go to Washington, and Joel Hanrahan would come to Pittsburgh.

According to the PG Blog.

NH likes his heat. I bet he orders his Thai food at level 10.

Odd. Does this mean Gorzo comes back as a reliever? I mean we have nobody here or in AAA that can fill the LOOGY role that Burnett did. Hanrahan is a righty. Perhaps more trades on the horizon? Either way NH continues to stockpile high K high BB guys. Weird.

Wow... NH traded Morgan for a former 1st round pick, albiet with some behavioral issues, but still a higher ceiling than Morgan by far. He also receives Hanrahan in return, who isn't pitching well this season but has shown in the past that he is capable. Seems like NH took advantage of Washington who was selling low.

Notice something? They gave up two lefties and got back two righties.

Interesting.

Hanrahan doesn't seem too bad in the walk dept.

Are they switching the LF and RF dimensions at PNC?

Argentum, I think that Veal may be getting Burnetts' work the rest of the season. They may feel confident enough to let him pitch only to leftys. This is the only thing I can come up with.

A 5ish BB/9 is not good.

I don't like this trade. We gave up a valuable reliever and got back another Tyler Yates.

You actually beat me to the punch. I was going to note how similar Yates and Hanrahan are statistically. I guess the idea is to keep adding these types of players with the hopes that one can eventually be harnessed.

Bottom line is that NH is buying low on two guys with a lot of talent/potential and selling high on Morgan. Burnett is what he is; I guess you'd say NH is selling "medium" on him.

I think this aptly states where I am with the trade. Not a big Milledge fan but can appreciate what he could become. Still scratching my head on the pitcher swap though. Why not just a one for one?

I'm guessing the Nats wouldn't agree to that. I wouldn't; would you?

Perotto on twitter say: "This deal is a steal, on pure talent terms for the Pirates. Milledge is better than Morgan and Hanrahan is better than Burnett."
