Though I imagine it will fly several country miles over the heads of several posters here, those limp-wristed apologists over at fangraphs have done the unthinkable and posted an article defending NH's draft strategy.

This is a valid point and good cite, and has been discussed at some length on this board. The point is this: draft a valuable position player in the first round, but one who is not nearly as high a risk or expensive as a pitcher, and then use the $$ to draft pitchers in the later rounds. The overall haul >> drafting a pitcher at number 4 and dumping your resources into that one pick.
