According to Rocco, Snell has been optioned to Indy. Here is a link from BucsDougout:
http://www.bucsdugout.com/2009/6/25/925056/remove-ian-snell-from-rotation-why

Let the discussions begin.

Not thrilled with the decision but maybe it'll wake him up...though it was in my gut a feeling that Vasquez might be on an extended stay in Pittsburgh

Vasquez will be added to the 25 man roster

Called it on Snell's last outing when I heard Vasquez was pulled 20 minutes after Snell was pulled.

Amazing the insight that bottom shelf scotch can do for a guy.

Dejan is saying Snell said it was his idea to go to Indy...

Quote:
UPDATE 3:55 p.m.: Snell just said that the decision to go to Indianapolis was his, that he approached management late last night with the idea. (Which explains why he was waiting outside John Russell's office after the game, as documented in this morning's Notebook.) His explanation basically came down to this: He sought a more positive environment: "Too much negativity. I want to be a positive person if I'm going to be here. I felt like I was going to be negative if I was going to be here, and I didn't want to ruin this team." He was asked to explain who actually made the call that he would go down: "I wasn't going to allow them to say what they want. I told them I wanted to go down. It's best for the team." I asked why he would do this, when three of his past four starts were quality starts. "There's a lot. I don't want to point fingers and make excuses. I just made a better decision for myself, my career and my life." I asked what he needs to do: "Nothing. You guys don't understand it unless you played baseball. You don't understand it, and the people at home don't understand it. I'm just going down there, get my thoughts together and do well."

I think while he's there they need to get Smoltz's shrink on the phone with him to set up a meeting...Thats what I got from part of his quote about getting his thoughts together...

I think this was a great classy move for Ian to make, and a good career choice.

Wow, did Teke rip into Snell in the post game tonight- saying B.S. that it was his idea to go to the minors. I think Teke thinks he's a total head case who needs to "get his act together."

On the Nightly Sports call they are saying that Snell is just a guy who isn't that bright. They even used the word dumb, which i thought was alittle mean, but it could be true.

If you read what i wrote about what Neal Huntington said on the Nightly Sports Call tonight it sounded like he doesn't think Snell will ever start another game for the Pirates.

Just read it. I am wondering if he had a falling out (or worse) w/ JR. Especially given the public comments about the intentional walk.

It does make you wonder, because it wasn't a suprise. He hadn't been that great all year, but management still stood behind him. It does make me wonder if there was a falling out or something to make them turn on him this quickly.

I am disturbed by Snell's comments on the demotion claiming it was his idea.

That is strange. I have never heard of any player asking for a demotion. This makes me think that a) he really is crazy b) he wanted "out" - maybe a fight w/ JR or c) they asked him to go to the bullpen and he is saying no d) none of the above.

It's probably D but this is my speculation.

Here is my thoughts.

He is in his own crazy world. He tries to make it seem like he is getting what he wants but he isn't. Im sure he didn't want to go to AAA.

That's likely...I think we'll never really know.

I think it is D. I think there is a cover up of what really happened. I think there was some kind of fight involved. Huntington was blasting him tonight. Huntington said Snell said he just wants to go throw it as hard as he can and do it his way and not be told what to do. He went on to say that they want to see how he responds to the minors. If he takes the advice or if he is closed minded and just shuts it down. He said the student that isn't willing to learn wont learn.
