I don't know that I have seen a player this electrifying in a Bucco uniform since...dare I say it?...Barry Bonds. He has just made the transition look so easy. Bob Walk was talking about him on the post game last night. Not only did he just miss a 3-run jack early in the game (OK, maybe it wasn't as close as Tim Neverett made it sound), but he comes through with a clutch single up the middle to keep the comeback going with two outs, then, in a "must steal" situation, steals second without a throw (Victor Martinez notwithstanding). Add to that his great defense so far, and I think this is a true impact player that will not tank later.

I wrote this before doug. He reminds me of watching Dave Parker for the first time. You just KNEW he was special.

I think we attribute too much to Bonds with rear view vision. He wasn't nearly so electrifying as a skinny .220 hitter in his rookie year. You saw a lot of promise and he was considered the best of his class, but he did not jerk my head around on a swivel like McCutcheon does. Bonds greatness grew, McCutch just shows "it".

Yep, I agree. I remember that summer of 1986 watching his debut. While he sort of, kind of lived up to the hype at first and grew into the legend, Andrew is exceeding even the most aggressive of expectations from the start. He just needs a haircut...I don't want to see him grow into a Manny...

I went to one game during Barry's rookie year. He doubled in that game (his first career double.) I remember he wore # 7 then.

For whatever Jerry Crasnick's opinion is worth, he has Cutch as the second rated rookie in the majors (No. 1 position player).

This past issue of SI had some writers pick their awards winners at this point and one of them had him as ROY.
