Paul Maholm has been about as bad since the first few weeks of the season. Starting to look like another of the Pirate pitching flashes in the pan... Wells, Perez, Duke, Gorzo, Snell. Will we ever find a #1? C'mon Brad Lincoln.

Shhhh we can't say this yet. This is why i say we need to trade Maholm. We have to stick with he is the best pitcher on our team moto and no matter what we will not trade him ;)

Paul has not pitched up to his potential yet. He is a slow starter, not as bad and LaRoche though. He will rebound and have a strong second half. He is still not a number one starter. Brad Lincoln, and maybe Charlie Morton are the closest things I can see to having #1 starter "stuff". Let the bashing begin..... lol.

Morton will never be a #1. He might one day be a top 10 strikeout pitcher in the NL but never a top 10 overall. He is a strikeout pitcher.

It is reallt sad that we consider him our best. I know - he is.
But---

Era in April was 3.09 (5 starts), May was 4.46 (6) , June 6.38 (4)
He was 3-0/ 0-2/ and now 1-2.

NOT A SLOW STARTER.

I think Maholm will figure it out. When he talks he at least sounds like he knows what needs fixed. Snell makes excuses, which is why he won't get any better. He doesn't have a tough mindset like it seems Maholm does.

As for Morton, I hope some work with Kerrigan will make him better. He clearly had good stuff. He just couldn't keep it where he wanted. Everything drifted back over the plate. I kind of like him though. He'd make for a big upgrade in our staff if he can work out the kinks.

Watching Morton for the one inning last week and five this week got me excited. He has in my opinion, the best stuff on the Pirates...hands down. His stuff was silly the other night against the Rockies. Once he gets a little seasoning he'll be wonderful. I already forgot about guy we traded for him...

Maholm pitched a gem against Atlanta about 2 weeks ago. I'm still a believer in him.

His confidence has to be very low at this point. He needs a good start and a little luck to get him going again. If not their are others developing behind him for the future.

I don't know how well documented it is, bu Paul has been nursing a sore groin for the past 3 weeks. Could be a factor...

I think the problem in the past is that everyone we put out there in the past, just hasnt been number 1 material. Ollie, Gorzo, Snell, and Maholm. Out of those four, Snell had the better stuff, but has no idea how to pitch. Stuff wise, Morton is the best one I can see that could come close to being our number one.
