No Pirate game on Memorial day. I am 46 and when I was a kid I remember scheduled double headers on Memorial, Independence and Labor days. No such thing anymore.

Not scheduling at least one game on Memorial Day doesn't seem wise.

Don't look now, but we don't play on Labor Day either. Also, we are on the road for the 4th of July. So no home dates for any of the 3 big summer holidays, which typically draw well. Thanks, MLB.

I'd love to hear MLB's reason for not having every team play on Memorial and Labor day. As you said, they draw well. That's a great way to spend a summer Monday off. Coonelly should talk to the office about that.

I'm sure they'd come back and say..."At least we gave you the Yankees this season".

Which is better than the response I would have predicted...

"Pittsburgh? You say you're from Pittsburgh? Please hold.
[Muffled, as they put their hand over the phone] Does anyone know if there is a baseball team in Pittsburgh?
[Resuming the phone conversation] I'm going to have to call you back."

Regarding the 4th of July - I seem to recall the Pirates saying that they never drew well on the 4th. Yinzers would rather be outdoors enjoying the day.

One year, the Bucs started a game against the Dodgers at something like 11:30 a.m. to make sure that the game was over in plenty of time for fans to spend time doing something else before fireworks shows started. In that particular game, if memory serves, Bobby Bonilla became the first Pirate ever to homer from both sides of the plate.
