Today's Trivia deals with Hall of Famers who played for the Pirates.

Since 1950, what season (actually two consecutive seasons) did the Pirates have the most FUTURE Hall of Famers. (not counting guys who MAY make it in the future)

For example, the 1977 team had TWO Future Hall of Famers (Willie Stargell and Goose Gossage). So, tell me what year, how many, and who they were.

Hmmm ... tough question. I have to go with 1971. Clemente, Stargell, and Mazeroski.

NOPE...the Pirates for two seasons had MORE than Three Future Hall of Famers....

I think this is too easy!

Actually, didn't the Bucs have Clemente, Stargell, and Maz from 62-72?

Hey, hey, hey ... I can pick my favorite year. I remember the 1971 campaign, and the result was pretty darn good.

Your prompt is getting me to think about the teams in the 1960's. How about this - 1962, with Clemente, Stargell, Mazeroski and another guy. Cannot think of who the 4th HOF player would be.

I was thinking about Face and Groat, but neither is a HOF player.

1971 WAS a great year! But my point was that if we are picking those three, we would have a 11 year window, not 2.

Hmmmm...maybe it is NOT so easy after all. Keep thinking.

1962?
Good thoughts.. Face BELONGS in the Hall.

If we are talking about guys that BELONG in the Hall, we would have to look at 79, with Stargell, Parker, Madlock, Sangy, Teke, and Blyleven

Sixto Lezcano
Steve Kemp
George Hendrick

Actually, I'll guess 1969.

I said Hall of FAME...not Hall of SHAME.

1969??

Well...as I said there were two consecutive years...name them, the number of Future Hall of Famers, and name them.

Oh my gosh, that was an awful team. Wasn't Amos Otis, Tim Foli (second tour of duty), and Al Holland on that team?

But I digress, the HOF question. Is Ralph Kiner in the HOF?

Yes, Kiner is in the Hall..

And the 85 team, in addition to those bums listed above, a badly faltering Jason Thompson, a badly declining Bill Madlock, a starting CF (Marvelle Wynne) who hit .205, extra OF Doug Frobel who hit .202, as well as Amos Otis and Foli's second tour. We also had a 19 game loser (Jose DeLeon 2-19). Was this the worst Pirate team in history???

Can't remember what years, but the Pirates had four on the team for a couple of years back in the 1960s. Clemente, Stargell, Mazeroski and United States Senator Jim Bunning. I'd guess 1967-68 if there was a gun to my head.

And you would be correct sir. 67 and 68.

I had thought of '69 and Oliver, but realized he is not in the HOF. Shame.

Usually aging is a pain in the a$$ (and legs, and feet, and etc.), but it pays off at trivia time!

Not quite...

In 1967, Jim Bunning played for the Philadelphia Phillies...

Too hard for me. I liked that question still though. I would have guessed 1962, but i would have been wrong anyways.

Speaking of hall of famers:

Pie Traynor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pie_Traynor went to high school in Somerville, MA where I live. In the local barber shop, which is like a shrine to local memorabilia dating back to 1930 they have a picture of his high school baseball team. It's a funny picture and a great barber shop.
