I started liking the Pirates back in 79 and one of the reasons was the uniforms/caps. I wonder if they will ever go back to them. I would love to see it.

They were double knit, meaning there are no buttons on the shirt, they just put them on like a t shirt

Actually, if they go do the same color scheme, and make them button down, i wouldn't mind them sporting them on certain occasions, but not as a full time uniform.
Actually the one's they wore during the early 70s are the one's i would like to see them wear again.

Providing that someone can design THAT same jersey to have buttons on it. I am sure it is more tha possible to design that, just don't know if the higher up's would be interested in that look for the 2009 team.

The mustard color fielding hats/batting helmets were the best look though.

Lots of very good, indelible memories of these uniforms.

There was nothing good looking about those uni's. That whole era belongs in the fashion hall of hell. Ugly. UGLY!

Hey, I resemble that remark. Cut my teeth on those late 70's teams and have a soft spot in my heart for double knits and pillboxes. Black on black was my favorite of the mix and match pillbox era:

I think Houston just ruined the whole era for me.

Guilt by association.

I still hide my Leisure Suit Larry Graduation pictures.

I think all the uni's from the past were ugly, before the late 80's/early 90's. I do however like the goldish/yellow hats. I hated the flat top hats.

The Pirates had something like 15 combinations in 79. Rumor was the equipment personnel picked them out. I think the days of that many uni combos are over. I would say if we have to go back let's go back to the uniforms from yesterday (1909). I thought those were cool, but probably not practical :).

If those links don't work I'd try to find a store that sells hats.
