I think I will have No 1's pitching coach get some pointers from him..I'm a believer in Kerrigan.

One thing he did with Maholm was interesting. He had a long piece of what looked like poster board. He was lying it at different angles and asking Maholm to make the ball cross that board. Paul nailed it almost every time. Is this a normal practice technique that I just haven't seen before?

VanSlick, thanks for the observation. I have not heard of pitching lessons involving tracking a ball over a piece of poster board ... Kerrigan comes up with a lot of ideas.

I agree with Az that Kerrigan has a ton of know-how. In terms of instruction, pitching is just this side of AP calculus. Grip, arm slot, position on the rubber, landing spot, stride length, front arm tuck, swim through, wrist position, back side finish ... pitchers work on a lot to improve their craft.

Somebody who is as knowledgeable and detailed as Kerrigan means a lot to a young staff like the Pirates.

One problem that the starters had in the past was the 1st inning...I remember last summer Teke talking about they had the worst first inning ERA in baseball, but did pretty well after...

That is the 1st thing that has stood out for me this year is that they are getting through the 1st inning without any damage...
