Kelly is batting .341 with three homers and 22 RBIs at Toledo.

Leyland said he likely will start Kelly in left field Friday night in Pittsburgh, which is near his hometown of Wexford, Pa.

"He can play pretty much everywhere," Leyland said. "He's a lot stronger and quicker now. He also played a very good first base in spring training, and gives us more versatility."
Kelly, 29, batted .148 in 27 at-bats with the Pirates in 2007. That was his only previous big league experience.

Kelly replaces Clete Thomas, who was playing in Detroit's outfield for reasons I can't fathom. Garbage in, garbage out.

Kelly, seemed like a nice kid but wanting on natural talent. Wasn't he related to another player on that Pirate team?

He's married to Neil Walker's sister...

I saw this kid play awhile back. He was a beast. His minor league numbers aren't that great but don't overlook him.
