I'll be loading photos of the leading Crawdads players for the next month or so. I'm following and getting to know the South Atlantic League club before I attend some games vs. first place Lake County (Indians affiliate) in Eastlake, Ohio this July. The Crawdads are currently five games back in the SAL Northern Division.

First up.. Miles Durham, the Crawdads first baseman. He's having a heck of a year at the plate, hitting .324 with 9 HR, 40 RBI.

The 6'4" 205 lb right handed hitter played at Northwestern State in Natchitoches, Louisiana. He was born in Forth Worth, Texas (where my dad grew up!)

Jose De Los Santos is the Crawdads starting shortstop. In his second season with Hickory he's hitting .307. The 23 year old is from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

He attended Oklahoma City University (isn't that where Freddy Sanchez played?)
So far in 2008 Spain is hitting .312 3 HR 25 RBI.

Here's Miles Durham again (almost typed Miles Davis!)
He hit two homers in a game vs. Columbus earlier this week.

I saw the Crawdads play in Hagerstown Vs. the Suns in August 2000.
batting order

42 Arron Weston Center
14 Jose Castillo Short
35 J.R. House Catcher
15 Jay Langston Third
10 Tony Alverez Left
52 Matt Schneider First
27 Jovanny Sosa D.H.
28 Josh Bonifay Second
13 Jeremy Harts Right

A few names that we saw or heard of later on.

Ronnie Paulino was on the team but did not play. Same for pitcher Mike Williams.

Ollie, you're aware, I'm sure, that Durham is a nonprospect at this point. It's nice that he's off to a fast start. But he's still in single-A ball and he'll be 26 before Spring Training starts next year.

Ollie - thanks a lot for the photos and descriptions. Keep it up. The Crawdads is just a badass minor league baseball name, too.

I didn't realize Durham was that old. Certainly we have some guys down there who will make it to the majors. I don't really care so much which players are prospects. I've just decided to adopt this team and look forward to watching them play here in northeast Ohio.

The Crawdads got beat in a slugfest today 14-10 by the Rome Braves. Here's Matt Cavagnaro the second baseman. He's 21, played at Penn State, and is hitting in the .230's.

The black jerseys are cool, man!

Thanks, Juan. I love this stuff. A couple of years ago Fausto Carmona was playing with Lake County. It will be interesting to look back on the lineups in three or four years.

I wonder where Jose De Los Santos will be a few yaears from now..

I don't know where he'll be, but I hope that, wherever it is, the guy who fits the players with hats does a better job.

Jose De Los Santos went 2-for-4 today with two stolen bases in Hickory's 6-5 Memorial Day home win over Rome. Hickory received 3-for-4 nights from Andrew Walker and Bobby Spain in the win.

Below, De Los Santos scoring one of his two runs. The Crawdads (27-25) host the Braves in the final game of the four game series tomorrow morning.

The best name in Minor leauge sport IMHO was the Piedmont Bo Weevils. They sold shirts saying Un Bo Weevilable. But Dale Earhart bought them out and turned them into the Kannapolis Intimidators. My Current group of favorites right now are, The Lansing Lugnuts, Yuma Scorpions, Lancaster Barnstormers and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

Hickory lost in ten innings to the Rome Braves on Tuesday. After an off day the Crawdads travel to Charleston for a four game series against the River Dogs.

Twenty-two year old Duke Welker gave up six hits and four earned runs in six innings. The 6'7" former Arkansas Razorback struck out six.

Bobby Spain extended his hitting streak to 18 games!

Brad Lincoln pitched six solid innings tonight in Charleston. The River Dogs lead 2-1 but Lincoln pitched well. Six innings, two earned runs (two solo homers) on five hits, no walks, 4 K.
He lowered his ERA to 2.25!

Spain keeps his hitting streak alive.

The Crawdads were shut out 5-0 at Charleston last night. Twelve Hickory batters were struck out.
Bobby Spain's hitting streak is now at 20 games and catcher Andrew Walker went 3-for-4.

The best I can do. Lincoln in pin stripes and a portion of an interview from "The Houstonist:".

Q: Is it frustrating to see fellow '06 draftees like Andrew Miller, Tim Lincecum and Max Scherzer competing well at the MLB level knowing you could be doing the same for the Pirates?

BL: I'm glad for those guys, I became friends with them. I was at a couple different dinners with them and got to talk with them and you know, I'm glad to see them up there. I wish I was up there but I hit a little bump in the road and maybe I'll be joining them there pretty soon.

Q: Being a Texas native were pitchers throw 90 mph at birth, is there any flame-thrower you admired when you were younger?

BL: Even though he's gone through a lot of trouble in the past year or so, Roger Clemens. I always watched that guy throw and his work ethic. I've watched videos on how he works and what he does to prepare himself and he's kind of my idol in the pitching sense. That's how I want to play the game: hard-nosed and just compete every day.

Q: If everything goes to plan this year, what is the time table for Brad Lincoln in a Pirates uniform?

BL: As for right now, there is no time table. I'm just working back to where I need to be and pitch like I know how and show the organization that I can do it. Hopefully they see that. I'm not going to be rushing anything, not going to be trying to get anywhere too soon. You know, when my time comes, it'll come.

Brad, is there anything you'd like to say to the many fans you have in Houston that are rooting for you?

I'm back. I'm gonna try to make all the fans back home happy and the Pirates are in the NL Central so they will play the Houston Astros. Hopefully I'll have a lot of people come out and see me when I get there.

Notes: Lincoln is currently pitching for the Hickory Crawdads, the Class A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is currently 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA.
