ok..I'm sure I'm not the only one who's considered this. Adam's contract expires this year. He's been serviceable but I don't think his time in Pittsburgh has been what was hoped for. We also have two great defensive catchers in Pittsburgh now...Jaramillo is hitting great at the moment and Diaz has also shown talent at the plate too. Again both are pretty good defensively. Does anyone else remember Doumit playing occasionally at first? I do. I think his defense behind the plate is his only weakness and should the Bucs decide not to tender an offer to Ad LaRoche...I'd put Ryan at 1st and continue with Jaramillo and Diaz behind the plate. Several of Ryan's injuries that put him on the DL were direct results of catching, so he'd see even more ABs and could truly continue to develop. I don't think we've seen any really big signs of S Pearce making a better impact than this scenario would bring.

It's been discussed here.

While playing 1b SHOULD help Doumit stay healthy, I don't believe his bat would be a plus bat there, like it is at catcher. He would just be average at 1b where he is a plus bat at catcher.

This has been discussed pretty extensively, and you could find it through the threads.

The summary to date? Majority of the board considers Doumit to be above average as a catcher, average - at best - as a 1B, and are against the move to maximize his value.

A minority, myself included, believe his bat is good enough for a 1B, at least as this team is configured, and would consider the move legit.

I think the plan is to trade prospects for Adam Dunn.

PL-- since I am one of those thinking the move may be beneficial, I'm especially glad to see another mind agrees. Maybe, only maybe, I'm not completely insane. Then again.......

I have never been comfortable with Ryan's defense. As far as his bat, he was the cleanup hitter before his latest injury. And he is a switch hitter.

I have said for awhile now that i think the plan is to keep Doumit so he can play first.
