I also heard the Red Sox are still trying to get J.J. Hardy from the Brewers.

It is time for the Red Sox to call up Jack Wilson from their farm club in Pittsburgh.

Lugo is going to make 9M this year. It seems like Jack @ $5M + Lugo would be a huge amount for a SS. They do have a lot of pitching to choose from.

I like him.

But, I agree, ship him to the major leagues, and getting him out of the Red Sox/Yankees/Braves farm system. After all these years, he deserves a shot at playing with a major league team and organization.

Maybe by 2015 the Bucs will be ready to compete on that level.....Oh, wait......they will be starting another five year "rebuilding plan".

Assuming for the sake of argument that there are trade discussions, which of the following prospects should the Pirates ask for?

Return for Wilson will be close to nothing. It really will be a sort of salary dump but in a good way.

Wow...I agree w/ Ryann :)

I think that getting Bowden or Bard would be good but that might be too high. There is no way you would get Buchohlz unless it was a package. I also think the 5M price tag is going to limit what they will spend on a replacement.

Who are the SS free agents available at the end of the season?
I'm pretty sure that Bixler is no longer viewed as a viable replacement. The younger guys are at least one, if not two, years away.
There is no McCutch knocking on the door at the SS position.

Bixler sucks. This team is completely different when Jack is out of the lineup. Yes, they still stink but his defense is so clutch its not even funny and he has been coming through with some big hits this year. Helllooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't even think we should keep Bixler around. Trading Jack would be worse for this team than anything trades they have made so far.

Feel free to compare the Pirates record in 2008 with Wilson in the lineup to their record in 2008 with Wilson on the DL.

Feel free to look at the entire organization for a replacement at the SS position.

The same mess of pottage that they had last year, minus the worst of the bunch, Rivas.

Jack Wilson is not a good ballplayer any more. He can't hit, he can't stay healthy, his range is declining every year, and he's likely to be a backup utility infielder or enjoying his retirement by the next time the Pirates contend. If they can get anything of value at all for him, trade him. I'd just as soon see Cruz finish the season at short if they could.

So many point out that this team is so much worse when Jack is not in the lineup and yet they fail to mention how often we have found out that fact. Jack has gone on the DL twice a year, every year for quite a while now. He makes too much of a percentage of our payroll to be out that often. That's part of why we keep losing.
Besides, I'd love seeing him on the Red Sox. They were my mistress team last year because of Bay, and I'd love to see Jack join him so I can root on the Sox again this year. Who here would not be happy to see Jack win a WS? It isn't going to happen here, so why not send him somewhere it can happen.
