So, does Nate do well against us?

Does ACutch do well going head to head against the guy he replaced?

I will be at the Thursday matinee game. If I'm thinking correctly, that should be Maholm's spot?

The last time I saw the Pirates play in person, Orlando Merced was playing right.

The last time Merced was in right, some of the posters here were in diapers!

The last time Merced was in right, the ultimate goal of the Pirates wasn't .500!

Thanks for making me feel old, Animal.

The first time I saw the Pirates in person, Willie Stargell was playing first base. I think it was 1980.

My guess is that a lot of them still are.

Same here, Sisyphus and The Great One in right.

This thread led me to go to the Baseball Reference site and look up Willie's career. Here's an interesting little factoid that I didn't know: Willie Stargell played 6 games in center for the Pirates in 1963. That's hard to imagine, isn't it?

I don't remember Pops playing the outfield, I know he did that was before my time. I do remember attending games and watching batting practice as a kid with Pops and Parker. I don't think you can watch BP anymore and I think that is really sad.

Stargell was a hell of a LF early on. Great arm, great legs before his knee injuries (or was it Richie Zisk?) forced him to 1b.

NOT REALLY? While he was not a prototypical CF, he had some wheels, and his arm was great. With him in LF and Roberto in RF, there was not a lot of liberty taken on the bases against those bucco teams.

Zisk had knee injuries. I think the years and the massive size of his frame, and putting on a little weight pushed Stargell to 1b, along iwth the emergence of Zisk.
