Bucfan's son won his start in the semi-finals on Tuesday, and put the Crespi baseball team into the CIF Div. II finals this Saturday at Angels Stadium.

Son went 6 innings, giving up 5 runs, 4 earned, in a tight 7-5 victory. Here is the newspaper story on his effort:

http://www.dailynews.com/preps/ci_12507215

The same newspaper, the Daily News, also did an article on the Crespi pitching staff - son included - this past Tuesday:

Meanwhile, I flew back to Princeton for daughter's graduation. The fesitivities were pretty amazing. Princeton honors alumni and alumnae vigorously. The dinners, dances, parties, drinks, etc. lasted 5 days. Those guys do graduation BIG TIME.

David Petraeus was the speaker after the Baccalaureate mass on Sunday. He is a Princeton alum, having earned an MPA in 1985 and a Ph.D. in 1987 from Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Government and Economics.

He was a remarkable speaker. Intelligent, prepared, inspiring, and genuinely impressive regarding his knowledge of Princeton's traditions and the role of Princeton grads and the military in world affairs.

Katie Couric was the commencement speaker. The less said of her, the better. I feel like I would have done a better job than she did.

Daughter earned a degree in Ecological and Evolutionary Biology, and graduated with honors. (By rule at Princeton, no more than 20% of the class can earn honors at graduation. It is something the students term "grade deflation.") Graduating from Princeton is big ... doing so with honors is a something very special.

She also earned an award from her department for her research thesis. Her research paper is going to be submitted by the Princeton faculty for publication.

Daughter therefore wound up with honors at graduation, Academic All American accolades, an award from her department and a research paper that is likely to be published.

Yeesh. These kids put me to shame.

BucFan,

Was there a band called UUU at Princeton while you were there?

There were quite a few bands at Princeton, BB. Don't know if one was UUU, however, Each 5-year class has a school-sponsored re-union that included music, dinner, drinks, etc. The biggest one was the 25-year re-union. Their parties lasted until 3:00 a.m. ... I know not because I attended, but because daughter's room was located just above the quad where the band was playing. Not much sleep for daughter this past week.

Thx, Az. It was pretty remarkable. It would take an hour to explain all the fesitivities, traditions, alum celebrations, etc. that make up graduation week at Princeton.

Thx very much, BostonBuc. Daughter would have gone to school in your neighborhood, but the diving coach was not very interested in her. So, daugther goes to huge rival and helps team win 3 female swim & dive championships in 4 years.

This was in a tent. I ask because my friend is the lead singer for them and he showed me a video from it. It looked pretty wild.

All the re-unions are conducted in various "quad" areas, surrounded by Princeton housing. The event is then covered with a huge canvas tent roof.

The access points have gates put up, and attendees must show a bracelet to gain access. And I attended a couple re-unions - the 5th, 25th and the 45th. Ask your friend which year he was involved in entertaining ... I might have seen the group.

I got no internet pictures or tricks.

Just a heartfelt congrats.

It is great to see your kids "jump over" the old man, so to speak, isn't it?

That's probably for the best because people who "go to school around here" think the world revolves around them :)

Congrats to your daughter, Bucfan! Tell me, is she sticking around Jersey after graduation or heading back to the Left Coast?
