Man, he passes the eye test doesn't he? He certainly looks the part. Count me as excited to see him in Pittsburgh!

Mets TV crew called them Fleas :) with serious speed. They said it reminds them of St Louis back in the Whitey Herzog days. Interesting.

Speed already a factor....runners on the corner. Now Freddy needs to replace Nate as a run producer.

2 runs on a single. Congrats Cutch!

NH must have gone to church this AM because this is the best possible start he could have asked for. :)

Was at the game today and got my first real look at Cutch. I can see why the toolsy people love him. Fast as can be and real fluid looking doing it. No herky jerky stuff. Calm and professional looking. Polished.

At the plate he is disciplined, swings at pitches in the zone, doesn't chase garbage. Going from first to third on Morgan's single in the first was a thing of beauty. Perfectly executed turn, and in stride. Not even a close play, and on a single!

Morgan pretty much played traditional left all game. Perhaps Morgan playing farther off of the line with Nate was more an indication of Nate's range and less about protecting the notch?

Interesting, Silver. I will watch for that. It could be one factor.

It seemed to me that McCutchen was playing closer to the notch than McLouth ever did. There was no doubt Morgan was at least 15 paces closer to the left field foul line compared to Tuesday's game.

Some are saying that this will be the best outfield in baseball. How does anyone else here feel that this outfield will compare to last year's outfield of Nady, McLouth, and Bay?

Traded next year for two minor league middle relief pitchers.

See, here is where we disagree substantively. Prior management would make these ridiculous trades for middle relievers - Chris Young for Matt Herges, for example.

The current group is doing the exact opposite. The players received in return - Tabata, Laroche, Hansen, Morris, Ohlendorf, McCutchen, Gorkys Hernandez, Jeff Locke, and Charlie Morton - all far, FAR different. These are "high ceiling guys." Players that are potentially good enough to turn the Pirates into a very good club - a playoff team. Players whose top end potential is so far beyond what they have now that there is no comparison.

In essence, what the Pirates have done is to try and bring in players who are as skilled and have as high a ceiling as Andrew McCutchen.
