There was some talk about this in another thread, and I did not want to hijack that thread so I will put it here.

I think that either Freddy or Andy LaRoche would look good in the #3 hole.

I really don't like Freddy in #2. He is too much of a free swinger.

I think if I were to make out the lineup, it would go something like this.

Morgan LF
Andy L 3b
Sanchez 2b
Adam L 1b
Moss RF
McLouth CF
Jaramillo/Diaz
JWilson SS

Interesting

Have a friend and reader of this board who has a question.

What are Nate's numbers when leading off vs battiing third? May want to let him bat first and wondered about his comparitive stats.

Can anyone help with that info?
Thoughts?

BTW- I find Freddy third and Andy second an appealing thought and certainly worth a long look.

My reasoning for that is that Freddy is probably our best pure hitter and doubles hitter.

The numbers are pretty similar. Surprizingly the power and RBI numbers are slightly better at leadoff.

It is unbelieveable what all you can find on there. Without a doubt, the best baseball reference site...and they are finally getting the other sports up to snuff too.

I've been in favor of a Nate/Freddy switch for a while now. I like the Morgan/Nate OBP combo, and that Freddy is simply the best hitter (of the baseball) on this team. I like guys on base with contact behind them. That is how you score runs.

I was thinking about Nate at the leadoff spot and Nyjer down in the lineup, maybe even 8th.

Why do you have McLouth hitting 7th behind Brandon Moss?

I have to disagree Colin. If Morgan were 8th, it would totally be a waste of his speed hitting in front of the pitcher.

True. I think he should be lower though to balance out the lineup somewhat.

We are already wasting his speed right now. I don't like how Russell doesn't take risks on the basepaths. They need to give him for chances. Andy also. He's no Nyjer, but he's not slow.

I think Nate back in the leadoff spot would be a nice change for a while, I'm thinking he's been a little too pull happy lately...

My line up would be this:
1- Nate CF
2- Andy 3B
3- Freddy 2B
4- Adam 1B
5- Moss RF
6- Catcher
7- Jack SS
8- Pitcher
9- Morgan LF

Thats until Doumit is back then I'd be moving him into the cleanup spot and drop everyone down a spot

So what? If he's not hitting well, he should be hitting in the bottom third of the lineup.

I have McLouth 6th. 6th has been called the "second leadoff spot"

In order for Nyjer Morgan to be an effective leadoff hitter, he needs to be able to get on base and effectively use his speed. Since April 19th, he's batting .240 and has 5 stolen bases to go along with 3 caught stealing. That's just not very good.

You're right, you have him 6th, not 7th. I've never heard about this second leadoff spot theory before.

It's bogus. All it does is limit the number of plate appearances he gets per game while placing lesser hitters behind him. Batting McLouth 6th is an effective demotion and does the team no good.
