I am wondering about what happens if Ian pitches poorly again?

Is it time to send him down?

It was about time Moss got a night off the way everyone else has, would you rather have Hinske (who had a 3-hit game last outing might I add) or more Monroe? I'll take the former.

Snell has been way below expectations this season and last. If he doesn't start performing soon he surely must get the Gorzo treatment. His mouth doesn't help him much with fans, does it?

Thanks for the variety Rod.

Because Hinske was 4/5 in his last outing? And, Moss wasn't? Or, maybe Hinske has a history against this pitcher? Do you know?

Hinske is playing rather than Brandon Moss, according to Russell, because Hinske would have an easier time with Livan Hernandez's slow stuff. It also was a factor that Hinske is 5 for his past 9

Anyone know what happened to Beltran? I see that he was replaced in the first inning.

25 pitches in the first. Not very impressive but only 1 hit, 1BB and 0 runs. Keep it up (please)

6:12 p.m.: Scratch Carlos Beltran. The stomach flu that troubled him over the weekend will not allow him to play tonight, the Mets just announced. Jeremy Reed will take his place, and the new lineup is reflected above.

How often has Adam L. hit one 395 in center to be just an out?

Ian is struggling here in the second: The location of some of these pitches has hurt him.
Ian threw a belt high pitch to open the inning, result was a double.

Then the breaking pitch that was hammered for the triple, was inside half, rather than outside half.

In addition, his pitch count is now approaching 40, with nobody out, down 2-0, in the top of the second.

Now, a double play. There is still hope.

He does look to last much longer. The DP was very helpful. Only 2-0 but not feeling good about it.

Good point. Now through 3:

Ian has thrown 65 pitches, and given up 5 runs.

I wanted so badly for Ian to pitch well tonight, and to get this turned around. The only question now is to send him to the bullpen, or the minors, which would be better for him?

Because I am not giving up on him yet.

Snell seems like the type of guy that could be a closer for a long time. He is a high-energy type guy that, if he had the right song, could really fire up a crowd when he gets the call. Most good/great closers were failed starters.

So, Ian gets it together to go six innings, giving up five runs.

Not a quality start, but not an all out disaster either.

We're down 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth.

Not sure where this goes from here.
