Has anybody heard anything about why Freddy would run with no outs on a fly ball in the 9th? I was very baffled by it all. Surely as the leadoff hitter, he had to know there was no outs. Surely, he knew his run meant nothing and he needed to be very careful on the basepaths.

Anybody hear an explaination?

Two possible explanations:
(1) Brain Fart.
(2) Punishing Nutting for the obvious attempt to preclude vesting of the contract option.

In reality, I'm guessing that Freddy thought that the ball was hit somewhere other than it was; he may have been "deked" by a Cub infielder; he failed to pick up Beasley coming around second base. Just really bad baserunning.

Combo brain fart and misevaluation.

Morgan said he thought the ball was gone. Since Neverett was making the call, I can see why!

I really think both Freddy and Tony Plush thought that was never getting caught.

Of course, when you are run 3 and still 2 down, you can't really make that decision. Your run is meaningless by itself.

Brain fart.

Serling was telling me that Nutting told him to run.

I think he thought it was going to be off the wall and he would score.

Freddy's quote in the game wrap up was "no excuses."

Why make excuses about this. He lost track of the situation and number of outs. Inexcusable at the MLB level. Plain and simple.
