Gerut was traded for Tony Gwynn Jr...

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/45719117.html

Looks like Duffy might be getting sent down...

Quote:
Gerut has played all three outfield positions, so this might not bode well for Chris Duffy, who has struggled to a .125 batting average while seeing scant playing time (32 at-bats in 19 games). Duffy is the only extra outfielder on the Brewers' roster but they'll probably bring Frank Catalanotto to the big leagues in a week or so. Or, the Brewers might just send infielder Hernan Iribarren back down to make room for Duffy.

The Brewers got hosed. I think Tony Gwynn Jr. is a pretty good prospect, and i think the Brewers made a bad deal here.

Gwynn will be 27 in October.

I still think he could be something decent. Maybe for this season Gerut is a better choice, but as for the future i think Gwynn is better.

Really Colin?? Gwynn really has done nothing special in his career, either majors or minors. Gerut has at least been okay, and had a couple decent seasons. I really don't think Gwynn will amount to anything, personally, and Gerut can at least be a decent bench guy!

Brewers, according to MLB Trade Rumors, have designated Duffy for assignment to make room for Jody Gerut.

In other developments, the Bucs reportedly have sent Altoona RHP Eric Krebs to the Dodgers as one of the two PTBNL owed them in the Delwyn Young trade. Krebs, I notice, no longer is listed on Altoona's roster. He's 24, had a 4.86 ERA in 10 starts, and had 15 K and 17 BB in 16-2/3 IP.

Definately an upgrade for the Brewers...

Of course, one of those running sausages would have been an upgrade over Duffy! And they don't quit!

Gwynn was hitting .309/.387/.395 for Triple-A Nashville with 15 steals in 16 attempts this season.

I just don't think i would want a cold and hold 32 year old journeyman.
I might be biased against him because he played 4 games in 3 years when he was with us. I think the Padres are lucky that got anything for him. He will break before the end of the season also. Duffy wasn't doing very good and Gerut is an upgrade, but not much of one in my opinion.

In other words, he's 26.

Oooh, how about this: Gwynn will be 28 two Octobers from now!

Yeah, Tony Jr was doing okay at AAA this year, but for his minor league career, he has hit only .275 with just 11 HR and 201 RBI in over 600 games. He also has an OPS under .700. He is a decent base stealer though, but as we saw with the aforementioned Duffy, you cannot steal first base. (unless you are Lloyd McClendon!)

I think Gwynn's only problem will be that he can't hit for power at all.

Gerut can hit for power and play all the OF spots...Gwynn Jr is a singles hitter and not that good at it...

Actually it was two players to be named later or one player to be named later and cash...

the final result was Krebs and $1.00 for Young...Almost like buying Manhattan for beads and trinkets...
