Vasquez clearly looked at a ball, however pinch hitting Vasquez for Andy LaRoche was not a move a good manager makes.

Good call Small Market Johnny!

That's okay, bb...I'd have thought it was obvious in the first place.

Yeah, horrible move. I am eager to hear his justification.

Uh ...... even though Andy has been tearing the cover off the ball, mostly against RHP, I thought.....uh...that we needed a lefty in there ........uh against the RHP. Vazquez is a uhhh gamer who bats left handed. So let me be clear.....uh... I liked that match-up....uh you know.....a left handed batter vs. a right handed pitcher.

I've never really cared for him as an in game manager.

I imagine it was his winning personality and his charisma that won the front office over.

Seriously though, no personality, seemingly no fire or passion, below average game management skills. How did he get hired?

omgardd- I am not sure anyone argued that Russell was a great game manager. I think the point of contention, at least for me, is the degree of angst devoted to his decisions. He could make every move correctly all season, and we still win 70 games. If we are to the point where we have the talent to contend, and he is still in there sending Vazquez up for Laroche, or using Gorzo in any sort of important situation, then I'll be the first in line with a pitchfork and torch.

Laroche is a much, much, MUCH better hitter than Vasquez. The pinch hitting move was therefore ... well, stupid. So Vasquez hits left-handed. He sucks from that side of the plate. So freaking what?

I understand that, but try to win every game you can. We're in the middle of a winning streak, you wanna go into a place like Chicago where we've had little success with a little momentum. We are 2 games under .500 going into tonights game, down 5-4 in the 9th Brandon Moss gets on with one out, and our manager chooses to sit our second hottest hitter, a guy who has two RBIs in the game already in favor of .206 hitting Ramon Vasquez.

It's really a catch 22. We have enough problems with the team that we don't need Russell's dumb managerial mistakes losing games for us too.

You should have been on this board when Floyd was manager.
