Pirates are starting Ian Snell in tomorrow's game vs. the Nats, rather than staying on rotation and starting Maholm. I just don't like the decision.

I understand that Snell threw just 2 innings in his last start and is ready to go. However, Nats have dangerous left-handed hitters (Johnson, Dunn) and have already faced two righty starters.

Additionally, by starting Snell tomorrow, that means Maholm will be followed by Duke. Would rather throw Maholm tomorrow and then go Snell, Duke, Ohlendorf. That sequence mixes up the starting pitching by R-L-R, with a pure power arm, a 2-seam lefty and a 2-seam righty. Tough to get into a "flow" against that rotation if you are a positional player.

P.S. I believe that Snell is starting based upon reports from the Washington announcers during tonight's game. The stated that Snell was going tomorrow, talked about his struggles.

The PPG notes, however, that Maholm is going. If so, never mind.

I hate when this happens because it messes up fantasy teams. The Pirates site still lists Maholm as the starter. I don't know what to do. I have Maholm in most of my fantasy leagues and i don't know if i should start him or not. I do not have Snell however. He belongs to the free agent market in 4 out of 5 of my leagues  .

Definitely makes more sense to keep them mixed lefty/righty, so I hope Maholm is starting.

Me to. Snell going 2 innings was a blessing for that game. Snell is the 4th best starter in our rotation right now and Maholm doesn't need extra rest. I could see it if Maholm pitched alot in his last outting but he didn't. It should just be too bad for Snell.

Can't base it on what the announcers say, I hear the PbP announcer referring to the Pirates as the "Phillies" a number of times. I was like, dude, can you at least look at the scoresheet, its right there in front of you. Rob Dibble is ok, but the other guy is clueless.

On another note: Rob Dibble mentioned last night that he like Karstens a ton... :?:
