Does Gorzo wind up or throw from the stretch here?

Gorzo gets Dunn swinging to end the inning.

Phew. Could very well be play of the game.

An interesting question for which Tim what's-his-name does not provide the answer. Lanny used to give that sort of information.

In most instances, you are right. But . . . watch Baseball Tonight and Jack will be the #1 Web Gem GUARANTEED. An absolute sick play by him. SICK.

Four-hit game for Jack.

Am I to infer that 'sick' is now considered a term of approbation? :?:

Spent a lot of time listening to my teenager and her friends talking over the weekend!

Nice job by Delwyn to drive in the insurance run.

That inning ensures that Johnson, Zimmerman and Dunn will all hit in the 9th - and Capps is struggling. I'd like to see another run or two.

Even a struggling Capps isn't going to let this one slip away.
Also . . . does anyone remember all those people who were excited about seeing a "real" SS when Jack went on the DL and Bixler was called up? Where are those guys?

Taped game and caught up with the end just now. Very long game. Too many full counts, walks, etc. for my taste.

The Washington rookie pitcher was given a big strike zone. The umpire gave him several inches off the outside corner. I thought he was Glavine for a while.

John Russell is going to have to get his Maalox from a warehouse store. John Grabow is afraid to throw his fastball for a strike, even with a big lead. He therefore nibbles, falls behind, and then has to throw his fastball over the heart of the plate since the count is 2-0. Dumb as a box of hammers.

Wilson's play was amazing. To get to the ball was remarkable. To make a throw all the way to first base vicinity on the fly on that ball amazing. To get to the ball, pop up and rifle it to first, dead center to Laroche, was unbelievable.

Ohlendorf looked good in the first 4. Stat sheets are informative but do not tell the story of his outing. He fanned Dunn in the first but Dunn was given a walk. Bad call. He fanned another guy later, but had to throw a ton more pitches to get him out. He was missing in the 5th inning, obviously, but a good part of that was due to the fact that he needed to throw a lot of extra pitches in the first and second innings.

Baseball is a game of inches, I tell 'ya. If Ohlendorf gets some help from the blues, he has a lot more in the gas tank in the 5th. That fact does not appear in the box score.

Jack also hit three balls on the nose. He and Moss (in his only AB) drove the offense.

The good from the bullpen: Chavez was good at getting the first two outs. He almost seems to lose concentration after getting the second out, however. Gorzellany did his job on Dunn. Threw some good fastballs. I was rooting for Gorzellany in the bottom of the 8th, and did not want to see Grabow ... oh well.

Capps ... still struggling a bit. He was spraying the ball around. He threws some nasty pitches later in the inning, and his fastball on the inside corner to the last batter was strike 3. The baseball gods were angry for the umpire not calling strike 3 and took it out on the batter, who hammered a foul ball off his shin.

Not pretty but the offense put up 12 runs on a terrible Washington pitching staff.

I went to the Penguins game tonight so i missed watching the Pirates game live. So i recorded it on my Tivo. Great game here to. Though i did list 3 players we needed to watch out for and those 3 did hurt us. Jack Wilson brings a winning attitude to this team. 5 out of the last 7 sounds pretty nice.
