Brian Bixler does not belong in the major leagues right now. Maybe he improves with more time in AAA, but he is clearly not a major league hitter at this point. He would swing at a slider in the first base dugout.

He's not a major league fielder, either.

He might be a great guy, but he's over his head in the bigs.

True. The ground ball that he let go into left field for the Mets' first run is an example. Compare what Reyes did in the field ...

He also dropped a dead strike that Diaz threw him that nailed someone stealing second. Jack Wilson would not have done that.

It should be obvious to the "trade Jack Wilson" crowd that he has no replacement. Bixler has had his chance two years running and has blown it each time. It is time to trade him to someone who thinks he is salvageable.

This is why the Pirates wanted Reid Brignac as part of Tampa Bay's trade package for Jason Bay. Bixler and Friday are not high quality athletes.

Friday, before getting hurt, was showing everything he needed to show to get promoted to AAA. He is still relatively young and is fielding well enough to play the position. His offense this year was ridiculously good before the injury.

Pirates also have Jordy Mercer in the system. Merecer was drafted last year, is 22, and is in high-A ball. He is hitting okay so far (.250, with 3 HR's and 18 RBI's in 108 at-bats).

IIRC, Friday was out with an ear infection. He did return today, and went 0 for 4.

You are correct. CurveRadio provided this info a while back.

I agree that Bixler is not a major leauge player. I'm not sure about you guys, but I've seen enough of him in several chances to believe he is not our SS of the future. If that's the case then I don't see the point of playing him ahead of Vazquez while Jack is out - not the future and not helping them win now.

Thank goodness we'll have Wilson back tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last we see of Bixler.

Ridiculously bad decision to play Bixler yesterday. I am seriously questioning the manager's ability.

In fact I question Huntington too, because once it became apparent that Bixler could not hit a baseball, he should have been sent down and Cruz called back up.

I hope we have seen the last of Brian Bixler.

This guy's pitch recognition and ability to make contact are downright terrible. I gave him the benefit of the doubt last year, but this year he looks even worse (if that is possible). I am glad many of us agree that we should look for someone else.

I agree with Ralphie too about decisions made lately due to injuries. I used to think Russell was doing a good job, relatively. There have been quite a few lineups lately I look at before the game and just laugh.

Bixler sure does look like a minor leaguer, and just think, he's hitting 4O POINTS HIGHER THAN MOSS!

And Bixler has struck out more than Moss in 19 less games and 61 less atbats!!!

I spotted this baseball lying on the ground in the park where I run. Reports out of Pittsburgh are that Brian Bixler swung and missed at this ball.

If I told you a position player was going to strike of 18 times in 25 at bats, every single poster here would have told me I was crazy. But despite it seeming like a near impossible feat, Bixler has pulled it off. Amazing.

Yet he has only one less extra base hit than Brandon Moss.

He is totally lost at bat. He needs to be sent down. I agree that he will not be our ss ever.
