When you are a Pirate fan, you start each year with a list of minor league players you are excited to watch, since watching the major league team is usually very depressing. Well, this year's batch is laying an egg:

Neil Walker hitting under .200
Andew McCutchen not exactly lighting it up
Daniel McCutchen scratched from his last start
Tabata out for a month
Alvarez struggling at .205

Is there no hope?

It could be worse. Brad Lincoln seeems to be doing not bad at least. If Moskos was a top prospect, we could complain about him too though (but we know not to expect much). Jim Neygrytch seems to have done well, Brian Friday was also doing well before he got injured. Matt Hague has dissappointed so far, and Jeff Sues looks like he may be doing better now after a slow start. What happened to Tom Boleska? Is he injured?

Man, when we are looking at single A relievers as a source of hope, things are bad.

Boleska is on the DL right now, not sure of the reason. His numbers last year were solid all around, but he does have a bit of an injury track record. If I remember, he had missed a year in college due to injury and had to be shut down last year (oblique strain maybe?). He could be an interesting reliever if he stays healthy.

Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing.
Hope can drive a Pirate fan insane.

There are a few bright spots but overall things are very bad up and down the organization. Lots of injuries and lots of poor performance from guys we had high hopes for.

the minor league struggles are even more of a concern. I'm confident some of these guys will turn it around, but if all are struggling (or at least not achieving the way they should) that's discouraging.
