DANG....So SIMPLE

Fernando Gonzalez.

Played for Bucs in 73 and was traded along with Nellie Briles for Spanky Kirkpatrick, and perhaps Kurt Bevacqua if memory serves me correctly.

He returned to the Bucs in 77 and 78 as a free agent from Mexico. He was a pretty decent pinch hitter for us in 77 and 78 and played just about everywhere- 2b, 3b, ss and OF.

That is correct. i was in my baseball card collecting heydey in the early to mid 70s and for every Stargell card, you'd end up with 6 Gonzales cards. What a racket (though I was pretty excited a couple of weeks ago when I was cleaning out my parent's attic and came across a stack of early 70's hockey cards, including a Robert Orr -- my all time favorite iceman -- that i was able to turn over to my 9 year old son).

Good job, Animal!

The Pirates reacquired either Gonzalez or Kurt Bevacqua a second time if I recall correctly.

I don't know if I would have gotten it myself. I spotted Al Oliver in the background so that would have been a clue. Fernando's mustache was bushier later in his career. That baseball card says Royals on it so I thought he was traded from the Royals to the Bucs.

Oh, yeah, you're right fellers. He did play with the Bucs two different times.. as did Bevacqua.

This is fun! If I continue doing these should I open a new thread each time or keep using this one? I had to ask my wife for help in "cropping" that photo this morning.. I can't remember how she did it, nor do I know any computer terminology whatsoever. She's at work now.

New Post.

And I that card was a 1974 Topps Traded card, FROM Bucs TO Royals. They did a lot of airbrushing at that time for the players who were traded.
