Yeah lets blame Russell for managing what he is given...its all his faul he hasnt turned Jack Wilson into Jeter, or Snell into Curt Schilling, or Moss into Vlad Guerrero...

yep, lets fire Russell...maybe Jim Leyland will be available to manage after the All-Star Break...

Doey would have put Wally Pipp back in the lineup the first time Gehrig didn't get a hit.

So it makes sense when you are struggling to score runs, to sit your team leader in average, and your best power hitter?? what a joke.

Maybe Doey would not have sat Gehrig. He believes that players should play 162 games per year, iron-man style.

Doey - players need a day off now and then. This is Sanchez' first day off this year.

The reason the pirates cannot score runs is that they have no hitting.

The reason they have no hitting is because in Major League Baseball you must pay hitters to hit.

The reason they will not pay hitters is because the owner needs to keep the payroll among the three cheapest teams in baseball.

And the reason the Pirates are perenially one of the cheapest teams in baseball is so that their owner can make alot of money.

Losing is very important to Bob Nutting, remember that.

I have a problem with this Thursday afternoon lineup mentality. If we knew Freddy was going to sit today we could have rested Adam or Nyjer last night. This game mattered.. it truly did. Where is Russell's sense of urgency? We basically conceded this game in my opinion. Granted I didn't watch the game. I'm sure the effort was there from the players.

For Russell to say that he feels better about the hitting on this year's club.. of course managers have to stay upbeat but we fans are not ignorant. I have a problem with the remark. Many of you baseball aficianados on this board have a realistic outlook on this team. I don't have your patience. Too many years..

Why won't Russell allow Mc Louth to steal a base now and then? Top of the 1st.. one out walk.. I knew damn well he wouldn't score. Man, I miss seventies baseball.

I dont think those guys could contribute anymore, they'd have a worse record than the current group

Their record in the 70's was quite good, as I recall?

Two World Championships, and Five NL East Titles.

How's Bob Nutting doing these days?

Yes, but this is not the seventies anymore. The Deadball Era is over. Move on.

Honestly, I thought the title of this thread was actually referring to Serling's routine until I opened it.

Yeah, wish I could be like the cast of LOST and head back to the 70's. No-hitters pitched while high on LSD, those awesome zig-zag jackets the Bucs had, 1975 Topps baseball cards...

17 straight years of losing, an all time sporting record.

Same Crap, different year.
