If they can not win today, then yes it has. 12-15 it has to stop here, If they can take todays win the series in New York, and come home for the Cards and Rockies they will be alright.

The way I see it was that this fall is a regression to the mean. They are on pace to win 72, which is what everyone predicted. Yes, we will have nice runs at some points in the season. Yes, we will have tailspins. And, for the most part, we will play .444 ball. That's what everyone expected prior to the season, and I think we just need to let go of any delusions that the hot 18-game start might have generated.

Correct. Nobody should be surprised by this level of play. To quote Dennis Green..."They are who we thought they were".

Time to start hoping the "younger" guys start to develop and show they belong or are becoming consistent MLB players.

Well we do get the bottom 3 of the Mets rotation, and that hasn't been very good for the Mets so far.

Game 1 Jonathon Niese, LHP (0-0, -.--) who is making his major league debut this year. He started 3 games last season and went 1-1 in 14 innings with an ERA of 7.07, he gave up 20 hits and 11 earned runs with 2 homeruns allowed, and 8 walks with 11 K's. I know some of you guys like WHIP so his WHIP was 2.00. He is a 6-4 Left hander from Lima, Ohio who is only 22 years old. Karstens pitches for the Pirates
So it see this game as a coin flip on how these two pitch.

Game 2 John Maine, RHP (2-2, 5.20) classic John Maine numbers and we have seen him 1 million times. I think we get to Maine and get the win in this game. Maholm pitching is a big plus also.

Game 3 Livan Hernandez, RHP (2-1, 5.53) the Pirates have never had alot of luck getting the wins against Hernandez but they have got alot of runs off of him. Snell will pitch this game so this coud be one of those 11-10 games that goes either way.

This is how i see the Mets series going. I wont even speak of the Cardinals game today.

Yes, this is expected but I still can't stomach this free-fall. Just once I'd like for a team to say, "You know, we need to look at the Pirates model and follow that." We've heard how the Pirates must follow the Indians, A's, Twins, Brewers, and now we'll probably start to hear, gasp, we must follow the Royals system.

This sucks.

I was really getting excited, and was ready to happily eat some crow regarding my lack of optisism regarding the team this year. Unfortunately, I may not have to.

It seems to be like other years, a decent April, tanking in May-June, a glimmer of hope around the All Star break, and then trade half the team away in August for "prospects".

I hope I'm wrong.

Well I for one had hopes that this was going to be the year that things turned around. I'm sure most of you did too after the decent start.

And maybe it still will be, but probably not. And that's a bitter pill to swallow.

I wish I had another team that I could cheer for like PoP (Rays) and No. 9 (Cubs). It would sure make a good buffer until the Pirates are good again (2034).

Sorry No. 9...had to!

No. 9 is a well-known Cubs rooter. He roots for them to contract herpes, but he does root for them.

Until the franchise is sold, the freefall will continue.

You beat me to it, Dan. I was trying to embed a youtube clip of the song. Could not do it, since we do not have a flash drive prompt as part of our message board.

Here is the best I can do:

The Freefall: Six Consecutive Losses, 12-17 for the year, 1-10 in the last eleven.

17 Consecutive losing seasons. Brandon Moss, acquired in the trade for Jason Bay: .185 average.

The third lowest payroll in MLB.

Paid attendance during the last homestand: Averaged less than 10,000 per game.

Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette: "The Worst Ownership In All Of Professional Sports...".

Pretty much sums up the recent story of the organization

All the while ownership rakes in the money and is profitable. The "worst ownership" part does not apply from a business standpoint. As bad as the team has been on the field, there is no accountabilty for the cheapness and poor judgement. Continue to spend your time and money complaining, or become indifferent.

The other night, I was at Bladerunners(hockey rink) and after the practice skating was over, a very large group of parents/kids are watching the Pens game. As a joke I yelled out "lets switch and watch the Pirate game". The group burst out laughing, booing and a few kids yelled out the Pirates Suck.

At least the Pens help shorten the void till Steelers training camp begins.

Jason Bay, 31, bad knees, and lollipop shoulder from too many surgeries. Soon to make 12million a year for declining abilities.

Moss, 20-something with good knees, canon arm, and upside that hasn't had nearly enough time to see. Has a chance to actually contribute here for some period of years.

All right...I won't argue with the current situation (this year's record, particularly of late, the history of 17 years, yada yada yada), but to use Ron Cook as testimony to your argument? Seriously!

Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette ==> Worst writer in all of professional sportswriters (at least now that Bozo Smizik is only doing a blog).
