Well Oliver Perez flopped again on Saturday for the Mets and didn't make it through the 3rd inning, as he was taken out after allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 6 walks against the Phillies.
Bringing his season totals to 5 games started with 1 win and 2 losses(lucky), 21.2 innings pitched(thats only alittle over an average of 4 innings an outting), 28 hits given up with 24 earned runs, 21 walks, 20 strikeouts, with an ERA of 9.97, and a WHIP of 2.26

These are horrible numbers. The 21 walks in 21.2 innings stands out but alot of things there are very bad.
My question is are Ollie's best days behind him and did the Mets get "Zito'd"?

I'm just glad the Pirates didn't listen to me and pick him up as a free agent.

Was listening to a Mets broadcast for a little while on XM the other day . . . they indicated that Ollie was on verge of being sent to AAA and that his scheduled outing against the Phillies was - at least according to Manuel - his "make or break" start.
I was a little surprised to hear that he could still be demoted but I readily admit to being pretty ignorant of the options rules.

I'm not sure what Ollie's issues are but, if memory serves, didn't he also pitch rather poorly after signing his first big contract with the Pirates? Looks like a poor investment by the Mets at this juncture.

I don't understand how guys with stuff like this can be so bad. How guys can be really successful and then go in the tanker, like Kip Wells did for the Bucs.

I am really thankful that our rotation is doing so well.

And I am also willing to admit that I was WAY wrong in complaining about the inclusion of Perez in the Nady trade.

Also, I really wish we hadn't cut that young knuckler, Wakefield, or whatever his name is. The kid seems to be doing pretty well in Boston!

True, but I doubt that he has the "stuff" to last more than a season or 20.

If Oliver is sent to Triple-A, will that make him the highest paid player in anybody's minors?

Well Perez isn't being sent to Triple-A as of now because the Mets have assigned him to the bullpen.

If Perez doesn't perform well he could be sent to the DL or to the minors, and don't choke on your Cheerios when you hear this, but if he is sent to the minors his replacement could be former Pirate Nelson Figueroa, who is tearing it up at Triple-A Buffalo.

I would wager that the Mets would now be thrilled if somebody picked up Perez and his contract.

I forgot to post this a couple days ago. The Mets placed Perez on the DL because of "tendinitis in his right knee". This seems to be the cool thing to do. If you have a player who isn't playing good they all of the sudden are hurt and are making a trip to the DL.
