At least it is in my opinion . . . I find the psychology surrounding the pitching/hitting relationship to be fascinating. I want to be Joe Kerrigan . . . . I could be happy analyzing these issues 20 hours a day.

Saw the article, and the references to 1st pitch strikes.

I believe the differance will be found in the totality of pitches thrown. Regardless of the first pitch, I get the sense that pitches 2-7 are more often in the strike zone than before, and that nibbling is reduced. Also, by pitching inside, we might be getting the batters to swing more defensively than before.

The end result, overall more strikes, more swings, and less pitches.

... maybe, sorta...

Good reading. I like that kind of analysis stuff. But it didn't do as much for me as some others. In fact, after reading it at six this morning I was actually able to go about my normal day without any meds to help me.

Very good article and further evidence that Kerrigan is a good coach for this team. Not only do first-pitch strikes result in a lower opponent OBP, but I believe that the effect is also that teams get worried about being behind 0-1, start swinging at the first pitch, and make quick outs. That is what Maholm and Duke do when they are on.
