Your man is a fine guy to have on the bench. While he looks like he has enough glove to back up at third, he hasn't got the arm or the range to play there every day, and he hasn't had enough bat to play there since about 2003.

Yeah, and Bautista's were even worse than his in those years, but that didn't stop the Pirates.

Time to nominate Parra to the Scotts Turf Builder List...

The guy has a 5 ERA, and 8 ERA on the road, and teams are hitting him at a .400 clip on the road tonight?

Did someone hang a sign that said Miller Park out infront of PNC Park?

You don't see much difference between a 24 year old who can play multiple positions and shows power and a thirty year old first baseman who is already declining and has never had any power?

The Pirates are making this guy throw lots of pitchers tonight, which means their bullpen is going to be used early which means tee-time on Gagne in the later innings...

Adam LaRoche is REALLY trying my patience.

Unless of course they bring in some middle reliever who has been lit up by the rest of the league. That would guarantee some feeble Pirate at bats and flaccid swings.

For me, my patience has been tried, convicted, affirmed on appeal, sentenced to death and put to death.

But hey, don't worry, he will wind up the season with below average production for a first baseman, so all is good.

P.S. Board rules require that you now criticize another player.

That was criticism? I prefer to think of it as a simple observation.

I was joking. (When I posited that Adam Laroche was not performing, the answer frequently was, "Yeah, but what about [name of player here]???")

I recognized that. Shoulda added a smiley face at the end, or something.

Oh, %$#&!, here's where Maholm comes unglued, I'm afraid. Why can't this team ever get off the schnide?

Gotcha.

What the hell is the deal with Maholm tonight? He is spraying the ball all over the place. he gets ahead, then throws 3 that are not close to the strike zone. He walks Mike Cameron in front of Ryan Braun, one of the hottest hitters in baseball.

Result? Base hit, RBI. Greaaaaat.

Well, at least the offense is on fire.

We've run through the rain drops all game. Now, it's time for us to score some runs and win the sucker.

Yep, you're right. I might be misunderstanding what was posted to me, but I mentioned that Minky hasn't hit well since 2003, and the reply stated that he'd out-hit Bautista since then, so that's what I was referring to.

But, if you'd prefer, substitute 27 and 34 and let my question stand. Bautista today is a much better third baseman, and they're virtually equals as hitters this year. I don't mind a semi-platoon until Bautista gets untracked (if he ever does), but playing Minky every day at third is like running up the white flag for this year and for the future.

This game has that bored-to-be-a-Pirate, don't-really-care stink to it.

I can see the Pirates sleepwalking through this entire game. No hitting at all. No ball hit hard enough to threaten the Brewer defense. Bobbing and dancing by Maholm, who has been pitching out of the stretch the entire game and who cannot walk through the minefield unscathed every inning.

I can't think of a more boring pitcher to watch pitch than Maholm. He is so.......freaking..........slow. It's amazing the Bucco defense doesn't have more errors than they do when he is on the bump.
