DK linked to a nice writeup on Jaramillo this morning by Buster Olney. In it, JJ gives his assessment of each of the starting staff. I especially liked his description of Ohlendorf:

Quote:
Ross Ohlendorf (1-2, 3.00): "He's a character -- a brilliant guy. His changeup is coming around, and he throws a really heavy sinker. Very articulate, and he thinks out on the mound -- he's thinking constantly, batter by batter and pitch by pitch. When you go out to talk with him, he knows exactly what you're going to say before you say it."

The more I see and hear of Mr O., the more I like "the cut of his jib". Intelligence doesn't win games by itself but it sure can't hurt.

Thanks for the link, Burgher. Ohlendorf went to Princeton. Only EXTREMELY intelligent and good-looking kids go to that wonderful institution, due in large part to parental influence.

Yes, I was aware that he was from that distinguished institution as was, I believe, one of the ones that got away, Chris Young.

However I believe that the guy pictured below disproves at least part of your stereotype.

You can read about him here: Nerdiest man alive goes to Princeton

So, I guess it's safe to say that this gene pool does not lead to Princeton...

Daughter is a senior at Princeton. And she is a four-year letter winner as a diver. The women's swimming and diving team won a lot. They won 3 Ivy League Championships in daughter's four years. Daugher won her zone platform competition as a freshman, finished 20th in the NCAA platform finals. She also placed second on the platform in her zone as a sophomore and this year, as a senior, as well as 4th this year on the 3-meter.

Finally, daughter is an NCAA Academic All-American for 2009.

Daughter has been pretty amazing at Princeton. Here is an "action" photo of my little girl in a diving competition:

That's terrific, Bucfan. Honestly, I've always admired divers above almost any other athlete. I think the combination of strength, self-control, grace and bravery required is quite remarkable. Congrats to her and to you on her success!
