Doumit's injury has given the Pirates an opportunity to get an extended look at not just Jason Jaramillo, but the guy they got back from the Jays for Jose Bautista, too. fangraphs has an intriguing write-up on Robinzon Diaz this morning.

This could explain quite a bit why the Pirates preferred Jaramillo over Diaz. The idea that Diaz' defense was so bad that a Blue Jays' minor league pitching staff complained is troubling, to say the least.

Cool website too, first time there for me. I certainly bookmarked that one.

Well, in all fairness, the article does state that his defense has improved in the intervening 3 years. His game-calling is apparently still suspect, but we all know that's a bunch of bunk. ;)

It's one of the first sites I check every day. It pools a lot of sharp commentary from a lot of different perspectives.

My lord, the Jays pitchers were up in arms about his "game calling"... ummm, not skill... ummmmm.. not abilities... ummmmm thingy!

I guess they didn't get the memo (or the study).

Kicks and giggles aside, this article almost makes him sound like a version of Ronny P.

Er - no, ZM.
Wasn't one of the indolent one's perceived abilities that of his game calling?

I meant relative to the .300 hitter with no power, and a lazy approach.
